Mad Men --> Season 3 Discussion Thread --> Premieres 8/16/09
Noticed the previous weekly threads didn't get too much traffic and wanted everyone to remember that one of the best shows on tv premieres Season 3 and we can discuss all the gooey goodness here:
Sunday, August 16th @ 10pm est on AMC
Mad Men --> "Out of Town" --> 8/16/09
Can't wait. Just plowed through S1 and S2 the past two weeks!!

Got 5 more episodes to finish on season 2 before I can hit season 3 tomorrow night.
The one major drawback with doing a Season thread on a heavily serialized show like Mad Men is spoilers for someone who wants to talk about episode 3 when everyone else is on say episode 5. But yeah alot of the threads I have been doing haven't been getting alot of traffic because I assume alot of folks here don't have cable.
BTW Scott. Great picture of the cast! Just noticed that Peggy is now a blonde.

I'm on the last disc of season 2 right now. I moved when season 2 aired and missed a few episodes, and by the time I got cable back they weren't available on demand or hulu. This time I'm doing it right, though, got my DVR all set for the season.

figured we could do this ala "Weeds" and "Breaking Bad". keep it condensed and insightful while building each week...
anyone see the secondary cast on "The Soup" this weekend? nice to see them get some gigs!
best i could find Patman...

I'll be setting my DVR and catching up quickly I hope. I've been cruising through S1 and I have S2 arriving on Monday. Such a good show.

What about this? Is this enough Christina Hendricks for you?

Good start. Pete was truly livid with his "promotion". Haha.
Who knew Kate Bosworth's sister would have such a bangin' bod. The look on Don's face when his daughter finds the TWA pin was hilarious.
Sal's look of mortification when Don sees him with the bellhop in his bedroom was pitch-perfect.

They don't say it at all, but since Betty is still pregnant, I'm assuming it's about March or April of 1963 since the end of Season 2 was during the Cuban Missile Crisis which was in October of 1962.
This is the first episode I've been able to watch live and it was well worth it.
Am I the only one squicked out by Don scooping up the top layer of boiled milk since my mind went dirty right away?
I'm guessing Roger has a pretty good contact down in Cuba since he was able to get his hands on Cuban cigars.

Good start
I liked the little scene with Joan and Peggy waiting for the elevator
Pete's meltdown was great as well, he's such a tool.

Ken is so much more likable than Pete. The show producers start to put Pete on the cusp of likability/understanding then throw him right back into the douchebag realm over and over.
I've never seen anyone react that quickly to a fire alarm. Usually, the reaction is more like "Jesus. Alright, let me slowly get ready to comply with this annoying alarm." Don and Sal both seemed really concerned about getting out immediately, even though they were in "compromising" situations.
Joan's feud with the British "right hand man"/assistant could be awesome.
Overall, a satisfying season premiere.

This is waiting for me on the TiVo. Counting down the minutes until I can escape work and rush home to watch it.

Awesome first episode. It was nice to get right back into things, and even after apparently skipping over several months within the timeline of the show, it was easy to figure out where everyone was and see what was different and what was the same.
Regarding the cigars, I thought Roger said he had them flown in from Beirut.

Definitely right back on track - terrific writing, acting, production values, etc. This is probably the most nuanced show on TV, and it's highly addictive.

I'm surprised they didn't address Pete with Peggy's revelation about the baby, but I guess the best is yet to come. I see they wanted to establish the new characters first, as well as create the immediate conflict between Pete and Cosgrove.
If, for some dumb reason, AMC decides to cancel this show, couldn't another network pick it up and continue the seasons?
