Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Maybe it's a special Alice in Wonderland inspired episode where they accidentally were shrunk as a result of an alien or something they ate/drank?

Eccelston's and Tennants costumes were pretty different.

Well, its a particular charm of the series, that the Doctor changes with every actor. Character has the same essential motivations, aura if you will, but the personality is different. The first, old, superior, and cantankerous. The second, clever, worrisome, and deceptively clownish. The third, dashing, white knight heroic. Fourth, unpredictable, manic, anarchic...

People worrying about an Emo-Doc are justified as NewWho does aim, all too often, at too much modern, wide-audience pandering.

Still, we wont really know until we see how the new kid approaches it (or is allowed/able to approach it- make sure to factor that in). As both Eccelston and Tennant were a little glad-handy, I just want the Doc to be peculiar, abrasive, a bit more alien again. We'll see.

Oh, and the new costume looks fine to me. No retro velvet, patchwork jackets, or, worse, anything that looks like it was off the Hot Topic rack.

New logo was launched today for Doctor Who 2010. I think it's interesting. I like the concept, but I can't decide if I think it has a certain amateur look to it or not.

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

The 1974 diamond logo will always be my favorite. But this new logo has a classic appeal to it...a throw back to the early days of the show.

I've been reading series five is actually going to be promoted as series ONE. What's up with that?

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Very odd regarding Series 1. However, I'm having a kooky idea; keep in mind I'm not very versed in Who back story. I'm thinking there could be two possibilities.

1) Generally, Tennant is consider the 10th Doctor, correct? What if they mess (is that the right phrase?) with conceived history and show that Smith is in fact the origin story for the Doctor, and in fact Hartnell was not Doctor #1.

2) They could simply make Smith a young Hartnell. You'd still retain continuity, but you'd essentially be getting Doctor Who The Young Adventures. 10 did mention in a flashback the temporal void that every young Timelord has to look into. "The Doctor" had to be a child/young adult at some point, no? (Yes, I understand young is relative.)

Very astute observation, Superman07. I think this new photo will tell you if your theory is correct or not:
Spoiler:

He's wearing Tennant's costume, which indicates regeneration.

I did not need to know that. Just makes it more real. And my theory likely wrong.

Maybe
Spoiler:
Tennant regenerates into the Hartnell Doctor, and his life is a closed loop, where he is neither born nor dies.

They are getting pretty close to the established maximum number of regenerations, so they have to do something more drastic sooner or later.

Oh, that's deep! I immediately thought of the following:

Quote:
Stargate SG-1 Quote:
Dr. Daniel Jackson: Teal'c's like one of the deepest people I know. I mean, he's *so* deep. Go on, t-tell them how deep you are! You'll be lucky if you understand this.
Teal'c: [lifts one eyebrow] My depth is immaterial to this conversation.
Dr. Daniel Jackson: Ooh! See?

Sarah Jane Adventures returns tonight, with part 2 tomorrow. It'll be a nice holdover until the Doctor returns.

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Happy news.

Quote:
The BBC Press Office has published details of the line-up for this year's BBC Children in Need charity appeal, with which Doctor Who has long had an association. This year the programme is once again featured, with what the release describes as "An exclusive preview of the Doctor Who Christmas special." Last year there was a similar preview for the 2008 Christmas special, "The Next Doctor", with the pre-titles sequence for this episode being shown, a month in advance of its broadcast.

This year's Children in Need night takes place on Friday 20th November, broadcasting from 7pm on BBC One.
So we only have two Tennat "specials" left, correct? Is is Christmas special and then early 2010?

Re: Doctor Who Series 5 Discussion (BBC)

Somebody already updated the DVD section, but through this was worth a post here too:

Quote:
Following the release of the UK transmission date, BBC America has confirmed The Waters of Mars will air in the US on Saturday December 19 at 9:00pm ET/PT.

Tennant's final two stories will then air over the holiday season as a two-part special. Airdates will be released in early December.

The BBC will release The Waters of Mars and the two-part finale on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 both as individual releases and also as part of a 5 disc specials collection including The Next Doctor and Planet of the Dead.
So it's a the lat one is a two-part episode, but the originals (UK) will air on Christmas Day and New Years Day?
