Random thoughts:
Super excited for Breaking Bad, Cranston and Aaron Paul. In a perfect world, all three will win.
Damages being in Drama Series is all kinds of wrong. As a whole the show was just a mess this season. House shouldn't be in either...what a crap season. The Shield should be in over both.
Family Guy? Sure...

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
I thought Damages was fantastic until the final episode, which was just ... way to clean. And since these aren't based on full seasons, it isn't that big of a surprise.
Glad to see Lost up there. Family Guy deserves one, but that nomination is about 5 seasons late.
I don't like them opening up these fields this much, it just seems wrong.
but to 30 Rock, The Office, Damages, Lost, Flight of the Conchords, and How I Met Your Mother (this season of Weeds has been ehh.)
Big for no CBS procedurals making the Best Drama list.

Best reality competition
1).The Amazing Race
2).American Idol
3). Dancing with the Stars
4). Project Runway
5). Top Chef
Best variety, music or comedy series
1). The Colbert Report
2). The Daily Show
3). The Late Show with David Letterman
4). Real Time with Bill Maher
5). Saturday Night Live
Hopefully, Amazing Race can keep its streak alive. Last season was pretty good and the couple of the final episodes and the finale was great for Luke's meltdown. It's fantastic that Survivor didn't get a nomination after all the complaining and pleading that Jeff Probst did on his blog. I hope he doesn't get nominated because he is an asshat.

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
The only omission complaints I really have are:
Californication (assuming that the last season took place in the window, which I think it did). It deserved nominations for best comedy, Actor, and Supporting Actor.
The Shield for best drama and some acting nods.
I think it's good that they increased the nom number in each category. The 5 noms/category is a relic from the 3-network days.

I like Byrne on the show and this season was more focused on Patty than Ellen, really. Close had such 'noteworthy' storylines such as bickering with her son about his older girlfriend...ugh.

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
I'm happy as long as Amazing Race or Top Chef win out. Odds are on Amazing Race, though.
Since Family Guy is nominated for Best Comedy, it is not nominated for best animated series. Those noms are:
American Dad • Sixteen-Hundred Candles • FOX • 20th Century Fox / Underdog / Fuzzy Door
Robot Chicken • Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II • Cartoon Network • ShadowMachine
South Park • Margaritaville • Comedy Central • Central Productions
The Simpsons • Gone Maggie Gone • FOX • Gracie Films in Association with 20th Century Fox Television
3 of the 6 nominations for "Best Directing - Comedy" are for 30 Rock (Apollo, Apollo - Reunion - Generalissimo), 4 of the 5 writing nominations for Comedy are for 30 Rock (the 5th went to Flight of the Conchords). Similarly, 4 of the 5 writing nominations for Drama are for Mad Men (the 5th went to Lost).
BSG got a nom for Best Directing - Drama (Daybreak Pt. 2)

Yeah the only thing I"m really pulling for is for Aaron Paul to win. No need to worry about Cranston, they should just give him the statue right now.

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
Aaron Paul, Rose Byrne for supporting; all noms for 30 Rock, Tina Fey as Palin, Breaking Bad, Damages (but Supporting for William Hurt is too much)
No love for True Blood S1 ...should win though for "Main Title Design" (props to Digital Kitchen)
House over 24's comeback season? Sarah Silverman??? Kiefer only for Redemption??
Are the Emmys serious about keeping the Outstanding Reality Host category?
Putting her in supporting is appropriate for this past season. Byrne should have been Lead last year considering she had more screen time than Close and the storyline focused around Byrne's Hewes & Assoc. newcomer in the first season.

So glad that Big Love finally gets recognized. It's third season was one of the best beginning-to-end season runs of any show on TV in years.

This is official and expanded categories? Weak. That's why I don't really pay attention these things - they are a meaningless waste.

Re: 2009 Emmy Nominations
I heard Ausiello say on The Early Show this morning, that for the first time the noms were selected by us, the viewers. I heard nothing about this.
Shameful that once again FNL gets left behind.
I am super happy to hear that Aaron Paul got a nod. Bravo to him!
Cranston too!

The Soup is better than all of those. How does SNL keep getting nominated when it has a continued streak of shittiness that has been going on for years.
