Penn & Teller Bull****: Astrology - 07/02/09

Showtime, 9:00pm CDT

Quote:
In episode 702, millions of people believe their destinies are determined by the positions of the sun, moon, and planets, so Penn and Teller follow two astrologers as they dole out advice - for a price.
The guys relax for the easiest target of the year.

Next week: Video Games. They make us violent killers, right?

I hope they do actual debunking this time, unlike last weeks which had none at all.

I'm ordering Showtime today. I'll catch last week's ep immediately after the new one.

I was expecting for them to declare female ejaculation bullshit, but, despite having an opening to do so, they didn't really touch on the subject.

Pretty good show, but it was a low degree of difficulty. Loved the young skeptic Penn & Teller fan in the class.

I hope they interviewed Walter Mercado. He is the biggest astrologist/bulshitter to have come from Puerto Rico. A former telenovela actor turned astrologist, that son of a bitch has made millions across latin america with his predictions. He is based now in Miami and that guy has his horoscope printed in almost every newspaper in Spanish.

My big complaint: now I want to see an episode on xenophobia.

These astrologists are douches no doubt, but it's hard for me to have sympathy for the idiots that buy their bullshit even with the throw everything at the wall to see what sticks approach taken.

The woman who met the astrologist at her friend's tidy house was good.

exactly. people that are dumb enough to buy into this crap are pretty much doing to themselves.

i watched this episode this morning and the wife was in the room. about half way through she goes "why is there so much profanity on this show?" i couldn't help but laugh.

Just a heads-up that this episode is free online on Showtime.com without profanity. I like it better that way, personally. I find the profanity mostly there for shock value without any real reason for it.

Re: Penn & Teller Bull****: Astrology - 07/02/09

Does anyone consider that this show is a setup to attack those that make money from others whether it is legitimate or not. All this stupid show does is make left brain people agree and laugh, and annoy right brain people.

In my opinion, this show more of a crock than Astrology.

LOL good times. I would say Astrology is probably more of a left-wing thing than a right ring thing so i dont think your point (if thats what it is indeed is) works.
A lot of what they do is expose people who make money by exploiting hope in weak people. If you cannot see this then dont watch the show and move right along.

Re: Penn & Teller Bull****: Astrology - 07/02/09

I don't have time to educate you on what left and right brain means, and as for your out of the blue comment about left wing and right wing, I'm more aware of conservative presidents who used Astrologer's, than I am of Democrat or Liberal presidents.

You are right that I don't have to watch the show, I don't even subscribe to cable or satellite, as that is a big rip-off, with more of the base feed being advertising rather than content. I watched it online after someone commented about the show.

I intensely dislike anyone being exploited (even by cable/satellite companies), but to discredit something in the vulgar and insincere manner with which this show does, is an insult to one's intelligence.

Say what you like, I'm moving on.

Re: Penn & Teller Bull****: Astrology - 07/02/09

The "vulgarity" part of the show is explained early on in the series. If they said psychic's are fake (and showed psychics scamming people) they could get sued.

If they call psychics vile manipulators who feed off the suffering of others (and showed psychics scamming people) they get certain protection from law suits.

Liars = lawsuit

Evil = no lawsuit
