Big Brother USA could learn a lot from the British version. They give the houseguests tasks everday to keep things interesting.

I also like the way they put people up for nomination. The houseguests vote for 2 people to go up for eviction and the top 2 vote getters then go up for eviction with the viewing audience making the final decision. CBS could make a lot of money charging for the voting texting and phone calls. I also like that when a evicted houseguest leaves the house, they can be mercifully booed by thousands of spectators just to show them how much of an ass they have been.

And most importantly, the host (Davina) for BBUK actually has a personality and is quite funny with her putdowns of the cast members.

It's also nice that the studios in England are not afraid to pay royalites for any song they play live and they encourage the houseguests to sing (either good or bad). I am very interested (and please don't spoil it for me) to see if they tell the houseguests that Michael Jackson died. He is huge in Britain and his music was prominently featured during last years edition.

You forgot to mention the most important difference. In BB UK they aren't allowed to talk about nominations. This leads to the housemates having real conversations and not just game talk 24/7. They actually get to know each other and we get to know them.

When they do slip up and talk about nominations, they are punished and the transcript of the conversation is read aloud to the entire house.

Yes, that is very important and hilarity ensued when they read the 4' 11" black girl's comments at the dinner table. Thankfully, she was evicted by the viewing audience.

These differences really are fascinating. I wish they'd try them in the US and see how they go over. The US BB has become more and more about game strategy the past few seasons, to where that's about all they air.

It can be that way watching BBUK on a daily basis. But I guess since it's a different country and culture it holds a fascination for me. Me mum was born in Hull, England.

And you definitely can't say the houseguests are all similar, like you can with the US version. It's amazing that, as big a country as we live in, the majority of the housemates they find are nearly identical (year after year). Our idea of a different culture is a black guy from LA.

ps...I'm ahead of you in the UK edition, so without giving anything away, do you have any favorites (or least favorites)?

Favs among the guys (Kris, Rodrigo and in the beginning I didn't think I would like him, but Siavash)

Favs among the girls (Noirin & Karly both are incredibly beautiful)

The people I do not like are Sophia & Sree.

Now I'm just at the point where Sree announced his undying love to Noirin and I can only envision a lot of trouble and uneasiness between the two. It probably has already happened, but having to watch another 15 or so episodes to catch up is going to take awhile, but damn it, I will catch up!

I just saw the episode last night where Charlie & Cairon had to dress up in a bull outfit and blindly destroy as many red dishes as possible and when they were tripping over themselves and falling down, man that was funny.

The British take themselves a lot less seriously than us Yanks!

Now I've got to close The Wikipedia page for Big Brother 2009 UK before I read any spoilers.
