Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

Thankfully I don't have to worry about that change any longer.

The car bit just made me spit cheerios on my monitor. Glad to have him back!

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

I made the switch to Craig Ferguson at 12:30 a year or two ago, so it's great to be able to see both guys now. As others have said, Jay Leno seems like a nice guy, but I haven't found too much of his stuff tremendously funny. Conan, however, is great silliness and can easily give you one or two moments of tear-producing-hilarity a week if his style is up your alley.

A great opening. I'm looking forward to seeing how the Conan/Andy/Max dynamic goes, as I missed out on the Andy-era episodes of Late Night.

Wow! Great start! I'm soooo damn glad Conan will still do pre-recorded bits.

Also, the new set kicks all kinds of ass! I know they wanted to make the previous set more intimate, but this new set is back to the Class, Glam, and Show biz glitz.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

Not a big fan of Andy so far... I already miss the dialogue between Conan and Max. I really hope Max doesn't take a backseat to Andy 'cause that would be a shame.

Also, Will Ferrell is not funny and Pearl Jam was terrible. Other than that, decent first show. The skits pre-recorded stuff were great.

oh, and +1 on making the switch to Craig Ferguson. The guy's a comedic genius!

I agree about Andy. He seemed to be trying too hard last night. Hopefully he'll tone that down. Otherwise, it was a pretty solid show.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

"Circle! Circle! Circle!"

I am not a big Pearl Jam fan, and Ferrell didn't bring the funny last night, so it wasn't a great show IMO, but a pretty good one. I hope we don't have to hear all of Andy's laughter, because that was really annoying me. When he laughed, you could hear his one specific laugh stronger than the others, and it was distracting.

I've always liked Conan and Ferguson the best, so I'll probably end up recording both of their shows every night.

Although I watched the finale of the Jay Leno tonight show, I can't remember: did he mention Helen Kushnick? I know she died a number of years ago, but she was the driving force in getting him the Tonight Show (and then almost losing it for him).

Great show overall. Now if I could just find the old, taking a vacation to Barbados clip.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

I was hoping to see Andy on the couch. Maybe he'll make it over there eventually.

It's great seeing Conan in this slot, but I think he might have been better off taking over for Letterman than Leno.. they come from the same sense of inspired lunacy.

At any rate, It's nice seeing the Tonight Show back to watchable status.

1) Andy needs to comb his fucking hair.
2) Andy's guffaw at every minor punchline is going to get really, really, really annoying. Please only open up his mic when Conan calls on him.

Aside from the opening, that show was absolutely dreadful. The tour guide stuff was especially unbearable. You would think for his very first show they'd bring the quality material, but I guess not. I imagine it's going to get only worse from here. Oh well, I should be getting more sleep anyway.

But, that's been a Tonight Show mainstay for years now.

Funny how much opinions on the tour guide stuff varies.

O'Brien was serenaded by both comic Will Ferrell and the rock band Pearl Jam on opening night.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

Now that I think about it, the show seemed to grind to a down when Will Ferrel, someone I like, and Pearl Jam, a band I can't stand, came on. I'd rather watch Conan being Conan and Conan bits both live and pre-recorded.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

Big fan of Jay Leno myself. I don't mind Conan and often enjoyed his show too... however... I hated his show when Andy was on.

I seriously almost hit delete on the Tivo when I saw Andy's name pop up on the screen during the opening credit sequence. I hope they get rid of him because he is an annoyance. The Conan/Max interaction is 100x better.

I thought the opening show as a whole was a bit blah... especially the too long running sequence at the beginning which unfortunately reminded me of Jimmy Fallon's opening sequence.

You know that opening was a one-time thing, right? I thought it was _hilarious_, especially running through Wrigley DURING a game. Awesome.

My thoughts. Keep in mind, I am a huge Conan fan. I thought it was good, not great. The opening running skit and the Universal Studios tour was hilarious. The Will Ferrell interview was ok, but I just think everyone was kind of getting a feel for everything it being the first show. I think when they get back to a normal monologue it will flow a lot better. I like the set, it's so much bigger than the New York set, it will take a bit to get used to.

I'm going to have to get used to having Andy miked during the monologue and him chiming in. I am not rushing to any judgments yet.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

I thought it was a damn good show. Farrell was himself and Pearl Jam did the same generic tunes theve done since vs.

Andy was fine. I liked him as the cohost. Wasnt Max always micked? I remember hearing him laugh all the time. Looks like Andy will be the go to guy with stuff and Max will fill the Joel role.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

I really enjoyed the show. It was great to see Conan again, I was in serious withdrawl. I liked all the sketches, the opening was very Conan and the tour bit was great. It can only get better from here. Really happy it got good ratings too.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

watching this now, hilarious seems like he's the same old Conan we all loved. Loved the tour and car segments, but I've always loved the pre-recorded bits.

Glad he's back!

Edit-As much as I liked Andy in the past, he was WAYYY over the top. I agree he needs to tone it down a bit. Would also like to see Max get into the fray some too.

Re: The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brein starting June 1!

Liked it, skit was funny. I'm probably in the minority that I can't stand Andy Richter, not funny, lacks any talent of any kind. He really hurts the show IMO.

Ferguson is still the best Late Night talk show host IMO. Conan is the king of funny skits, but Ferguson is brilliant in his interviews & I love his personality the most. Conan gets annoying trying to upstage the guests too much & is overly self-depricating to the point where it's irritating.

Swine-Flu is funnier than Leno so I'm glad he is gone.

Loved it- first time I have watched The Tonight Show since Leno took over. Good to see Conan isn't watering down his sensibilities for the earlier audience. I'm sure as it evolves it will only get better.

Craig talked about Conan's 1st night during his open. Of course when he taped the show hadn't aired yet, but he made fun of that fact and still put out good words about Conan.
