Love this show. Probably right up there with Big Brother as my favorite reality shows.

I watched it a lot during S1 but didn't think about it again until midway last season. It's much better than Idol. The judges are kooky, but they pay attention to the contestants and seem to actually care enough to give some decent advice. Plus, Cat Deely is a much better host than Seacrest. I'll try it again this year.

THe show improved leaps and bounds when they replaced Sanchez(?) with Deely.

For those that remember things there was a girl from last season that didn't make it to the finals, her mother I think was a dance instructor? I hope she comes back, I was pulling for her last season but she didn't make it.

Oh, yeah, I remember her - mother was choregrapher for HSM or something. Dunno the name. Hope she comes back, too.

Nice to see Natalie and Brenden back this season (they were #11 to Katee and Gev in Vegas last year).

Mary Murphy is great, even though her screaming drives me nuts. But, I know that's part of her schtick.

Good to see Napoleon and Tabitha return. They were probably my favorite chereographers last season.

And yes, Cat Deeley is way better than Lauren Sanchez.

I'm very happy they've toned down the 'bad auditions' portion of the auditions as opposed to Idol where it seems to be the highlight of the auditions. A few can be fun but I don't want them taking away from the good dancers. Already some amazing performances on the first night of auditions.

I liked Nat's movements, it does provoke a response from me, but she's not as light on her feet as Katy is/was. After a while, Brandon's routine bored me, he needs some personality to spice it up.

Wonder if what I heard is true:
Spoiler:
supposedly the top 20 will have very pretty female contestants who can actually also dance.

I hope they don't have Sonya Tayeh (the lady with the mohawk) back judging, she was Mia Michaels pt 2 (with the added annoyance of being unable to talk half the time) and one Mia Michaels is more than enough.

So happy this show is back! And like someone mentioned, they really did cut back on the bad dancers. That's a smart move.

Didn't see any standout breakers yet in the first two hours. I'm kinda curious about that Japanese guy. He seemed to be just ok, but made it to Vegas. I thought he was going to be awful when they were profiling him.

I hope Natalie makes it to the top 20 this time. I really like her personality and dancing.

The Japanese guy was interesting but I don't see him lasting too long. And Natalie and her boyfriend were both really good.

As far as the people who didn't make it, the one I'll most remember is the circus side-show freak. I think I'm going to have nightmares about her.

I just watched my recording and it was interesting to hear that they are holding tryouts for a fall version of the show. Maybe the budget will get increased and the show can be shown in high def for once.

I don't get how you can call someone with serious birth defects a circus side-show freak. Sure, she was tough to look at at first, but the fact alone that she put herself out of her comfort zone and didn't care what people saw, is inspirational enough. I applaud her tenacity.

Anyways, good to see this show back. Great judging by Niles and everyone else except the goth choreographer. She was a bit "effected".

It definitely looks 480p. No where near as sharp as American Idol. Last year also looked the same low resolution.

http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-9...eback-ballroom

Quote:
Nigel Lythgoe: 'I don't like brokeback ballroom!'

"American Idol" executive producer and “So You Think You Can Dance” judge Nigel Lythgoe shocked fans with his comments on the dance competition's Thursday night (May 21) season premiere.

Of contestants Misha Belfer and Mitchel Kibel same-sex samba Lythogoe said, "I think you probably alienate a lot of our audience. I mean, we've always had the guys dance together on the show, but they've never really done it in each other's arms before.”

Nigel added, "Do you know what? I'd like to see you both dancing with a girl."

Adding insult to injury, Lythgoe backed-up his comments by taking to his blog after the show, saying: "The same-sex ballroom guys did remind me of Blades of Glory. However, I'm not a fan of Brokeback ballroom."

Although the judge is entitled to his own opinion, his comments made officials at gay rights group GLAAD insist an apology be issued.

"It's unacceptable for this kind of blatant homophobia to occur. Fox Entertainment and Nigel Lythgoe owe Misha, Mitchel and the whole LGBT community an apology," said GLAAD president Neil G. Giuliano.
I was just waiting for this to happen.

This was the general rap against William, who was the "serious dancer" last year (much was made of him being a student of Debbie Allen). I kind of wonder if that style of dance, which requires a lot of intensity, really lends itself to showcasing a colorful personality. I also recall that the more classical male dancer from Season Three (or was it Two?) - I forget his name, but he took a lot of jabs about being arrogant and not "friendly" enough, or something along that line.

Danny? He came off as rather "cocky" to me. Will on the other hand I really liked last season.

How did my TiVo miss this last week? I know the Ugly Betty finale was on, but what else was new to conflict? Darn.

Last night's was fun though. I SO enjoy this show much more than American Idol!
