The Office -- "Broke" -- 4/23/09

The Office 2

Synopsis:

Spoiler:

In his new endeavors, Michael faces mounting financial difficulties and problems with early-morning deliveries. Meanwhile, Angela plays enforcer as the staffers try to finish their expense reports on deadline.

I believe there are 5 more episodes left. I guess this marks the countdown for all you Office fans who are quitting the show if Chuck isn't renewed next season.

Is that dude running the office now the same guy I saw in a preview for the movie 'Obsessed'?

Yes Idris Elba seems to have the new monopoly on playing a**holes. He's pretty good at it.

Re: The Office -- "Broke" -- 4/23/09

Wow. What an incredible episode. The writers of this show deserve such credit for how they executed this storyline. Michael showed tremendous business savvy and played Wallace for a fool. He has been working for that company for so long, he knows it so well, and he finally got to show off his skills. He got revenge on Charles as well, preventing him from saying anything as he left was wonderful.

Jim also came out on top. I was genuinely worried when Dwight received that phone call; thought Jim was going to tackle him and lock him in the bathroom or something. But the way it played out was even better. Charles was already utterly shocked and disappointed at Dwight's ideas in the conference room and Jim used that and past Dwight behaviour to trick Charles. Gotta love it.

This season hasn't missed a beat. Carell and the rest of the cast have been fantastic.

EDIT: And say what you will, Michael has proven himself to be a tremendously loyal guy. He didn't want to just take the money, but help out his employees/friends. Him getting Pam a sales position is one of the highlights of the entire series for me.

Great episode! I even thought the running gag with the former Korean church van was hilarious.

Wow--that was absolutely hilarious. I lost it at Michael's reaction when they offered him $60 grand. When The Office does it right, they really do it right.

PS Noticed this episode was directed by Carell.

Re: The Office -- "Broke" -- 4/23/09

I'm surprised they wrapped this up before the end of the season. I also thought perhaps they were going to go with the Jim promotion/Michael as a salesman route to set up more tension between Jim and Charles.

I'm very satisfied with the way they did it, though.

That was so unexpected...this episode was so great. And for the first time ever, I didn't feel like Micheal was gonna screw up.

There was so many well said lines and moments, I just cant list them all.

Seeing Pam smile when Micheal made that come back to David, priceless.

Great episode throughout. This season has been fantastic, and to tell you the truth, I wasnt sure how they would handle this with Michael leaving, but it has energized this show.

Great episode. It seemed to have a great flow. My favorite parts were Dwight in the meeting with Wallace and Jim, saying it was too bad Michael didn't have children that he could threaten.

Great episode. As much of a goofball as Michael is, I really like the episodes where he succeeds.

Re: The Office -- "Broke" -- 4/23/09

Very good episode. Although i've liked most of the entire season, so I don't really think it's a return to anything.

I also love the episodes where Michael succeeds and shows how much business savvy he actually has.

Re: The Office -- "Broke" -- 4/23/09

That was the best episode in a LOOOOONG time, and I think that's largely due to everyone in the episode behaving like rational human beings...

HOWEVER, I thought the MSPC storyline rejuvinated the show for the last couple weeks, and I would have liked to see it continue at least to the end of the season. While I always expected Michael, Pam, and (probably) Ryan to end up back in the office, I didn't expect it to happen so quickly. I just hope the writers don't fall back into bad habits.
