This is good news for me. I enjoyed the show much more when Andy was on. I tuned out much more after he left.

Definitely. He can easily balance other jobs with this.

I was a fan of Andy being on the show back in the day, but Conan got so much better once Andy left. Conan is a great interviewer and he has great writers. Its thanks to the writers that Andy got some good bits to be in. Andy himself alone is nowhere near as funny as Conan.

I can't believe that Andy is going to give up his huge movie career to go back to Conan...

Re: Andy Richter Rejoins Conan O'Brien for Tonight Show

Great news! I always held out hope that Andy would reunite with Conan for The Tonight Show.

It's a shame he's replacing Joel as the announcer though. First of all, Andy Richter is a funny guy, but he doesn't have an announcer's voice. And secondly, those comedy bits with Joel were brilliant. I'll miss those. I guess Abe Vigoda isn't the only one we lost in the transition from New York to L.A.

Hahahahah!!!!!

The only "fail" is on the part of the public. Andy Richter Controls the Universe was brilliant.

I don't like Conan or Richter but this is pretty much how I see it.

Yes it was. "Whistling booger" is what I remember the most about that show!

I wish I could epically fail by quitting a posh job, pursuing my dream with some success, and then getting invited back to an even higher paying job without putting in the same dues as everyone else there.

Re: Andy Richter Rejoins Conan O'Brien for Tonight Show

It'll be interesting to see what the dynamic is like now, since Conan has been without him for so long now. Will it be a return to the old ways, or will the chemistry be tweaked a bit now that Conan doesn't need the "training wheels" anymore? I like the idea, though, just because it takes things back to the Carson/McMahon roots.

Stuttering John doesnt have an announcers voice either, and Jay hired him anyway.

This is probably the easiest job in America, and I hear the John makes around 250k a year for it. Amazing!

It'll be different if only because Andy will be the announcer and not sitting right by Conan's side. I don't see Andy being the sidekick in this role.

I have liked pretty much everything Andy did outside of Conan. It is a shame none of them really caught on. Oh well, glad to have him back.

While the Late Night bits were great, its because they created a Godard persona and that doesn't fit with the Tonight Show announcer role. The announcer on TS is there to be more natural, bounce off the host during the monologue ("YES! HA-HA!"), and do some funny field pieces a couple of times a month which wouldn't really work with Joel's "character"... well, unless they had him doing every report from the Asian gay pride parade Andy's much more suited for the role.

Apparently this is all because he owed Conan $300. Personally I'd rather see Andy back in the sidekick role and have Joel continue on as announcer. So it now looks like, in addition to no more masturbating bear, that Joel's gay Asian boy toys are also a thing of the past.

I'm almost certain even though they are calling him the "announcer" he will have a much larger role than that. How could he not?

Ed McMahon's official title was 'announcer' also, and he got to sit on the couch. I guess it depends on where they want to go with it.

I really hope that Andy isn't sitting on the couch again. Conan doesn't need a fulltime sidekick. Let him chill off-camera and be used sparingly.

NBC is clarifying that the current plans for Andy's role is that of announcer, not sidekick --which means he won't be on the couch alongside Conan, but will be there to do comedy bits and sketches.

the only time he should be allowed on the couch is when they do the staring contest skits.

i can't imagine they wouln't keep it. it's pretty tame, and using celebrities has often made it funnier than when andy did it.

I like Andy, but I don't want him on the couch during the interview(s).
