1st episode that faced Survivor (13.7M viewers) last night. The episode did good (9.5M viewers) but still got beat handedly.

But how did the audience compare to the week before and to when it was on Wednesday?

I did like this one. The intern was actually funny instead of annoying.

Thought that Booth was being written out of this episode for some reason, but he was around almost as much as normal. (And Emily can "adjust" me anytime she wants. )

Re: Bones -- "The Princess and the Pear" -- 2/19/09

Bones normally averages around 8.5-10M viewers.

I recall the 1st Thursday airing average around 8M viewers. At least it's hard core fan base is following it to this timeslot.

So what you're saying is that people who watch Bones are not people who watch Survivor?

That's reassuring in a way.

Good show, but that little medieval torture device was a nasty little bugger...

Me too (on all counts). All of Boreanaz's scenes were in his apartment, so I still have the feeling they were shooting around his availability.

I liked the episode, even though the mystery ending fell kind of flat. There was a lack of Bones/Booth banter, but on the plus side there was a lot of Sweets, who is one of my favorites.

Best part of the episode, though, was Bones in "Xena mode."

With all the Buffy/Angel guest actors appearing on this show, I'm surprised either show's name hasn't been mentioned already. Even that intern - he as a vampire who appeared in season 4 of ANGEL. A few weeks back, the girl in charge of that gambling ring one of those hockey players was involved in was Kendra the second slayer from Buffy.

I expected to see Boreanaz listed as director of this episode because of his limited involvement, but it turns out he's directed the following episode, the first to air when it comes back in 3 weeks.

The scheduling for Bones has been downright bizarre. Now we have to wait until March 12th for the next new episode? Jesus.

This is why every show should do what 24 and Lost do, start early/finish early or start late/finish May sweeps. This crap of 3 weeks off, 1 week on, 3 weeks off kills most shows. Thankfully, this isn't serialized.

Re: Bones -- "The Princess and the Pear" -- 2/19/09

Even though it's 3 weeks until the next episode, the good news is we are getting 11 straight weeks of new episodes, which will finish out the season.

Also, this was episode 16 and with 11 more weeks left, we are getting a 27 episode season, which is almost unheard of nowadays in scripted TV.

I recall someone mentioned earlier this season that Bones shot 6 episodes under last season's budget. I guess that gave them more money for more episodes.

The only show in recent years I can recall was season 1 of "The O.C.", and that was 2003.

The CSI's usually have around 24.

The eventual DVD release will be interesting, since the first 4 episodes of this season are on the season 3 DVD set. Maybe they'll repeat them on the 4th?

Yep. 4 of Season 4 episodes appear on the Season 3 DVD boxset because of that reason. It was also pretty expensive to shoot the first two episodes of Season Four since they were in Europe (IIRC).

The O.C. started airing in late summer (August) and was renewed with in an episode or two for a "full season". The show would have had a 7 episode Season One and 20 episode Season Two had it aired earlier in the year as a mid-season show. Since it aired so close to the fall season (only having a 5 week break between the "season") they just kinda make it one big season. This is all IIRC of course.

And yes, I believe they will repeat the first 4 episodes in the Season 4 DVD boxset. This time it will release before Season 5 premieres and not 5 weeks after (waiting or those first 4 episodes of Season "Three" to air).
