I definitely plan on going out and Crime Scene Investigating this weekend, soon after I finish off that uber complex diverticulitis surgery in the ER.

I didn't plan on driving a truck through that, but I'll laugh since you did.

I DID say 'close'.

You're right, though, I usually stick with 4 because, IMHO, it's the first season that's solid through-and-through.

Back on track, though, I WOULD say the biggest problem with this week's episode is that they fucking built us up to Holly and then didn't produce. That's bullshit, and then when it's not even a very funny episode, you feel betrayed because the worst Holly episode would have been better than that.

I agree with this post. I kept waiting for her to come out of hiding. And I really want to know what the letter said.

I just read through all of this and I can't remember anyone else asking about the letter! I'm curious, too. Any theories on what it said?

I'm inclined to think that it may have not been an 'I miss you' letter as Pam described just based on the subtle look on her face when she tells Micheal that it's not over. She looks guilty and uncomfortable, possibly lying to keep Micheal's feelings intact.

I doubt she would be lying to spare his feelings, since she knows that's the kind of thing that would fuel him on.

LOL! Most people have delt with the police and have gone to the ER in their real life. But I can see your point. It would be more accurate to say that the most successful sit-coms are in a setting that the average person can relate to. If you look at 30 Rock's ratings they aren't that great. They are between The Office and ER for a reason. And Arrested Development might have done better on HBO or Showtime but it did not do well on network TV. Personally I think it would have been a better show without Ron Howard's voice every other scene.

By the way......I only mentioned Lost and Heros after the one poster accused the other poster of spamming in one post saying Lost was their favorite and then posting Heros was their favorite. I find both shows to be "soap opera" type bad acting. Anyway hopefully The Office has some better scripts coming up.

I thought it was funny that Michael went out of his way to make a surprise visit to Nashua, only to find that Holly wasn't there. I miss Holly as much as anyone. (I liked her better than Toby), but, this does set up an awkward reunion when she does return to the show.

Yeah I thought that too. She might be trying to make him feel better since he is hurting so bad and then later she will tell him the truth gently. That's the other "jump the shark" type thing with most sit-coms. When they stop being about the laugh and more about romantic relationships and drama. I think maybe Seinfeld might be the only successful network TV sit-com that stayed a comedy from start to end. There were no dramatic scenes.........it was all comedy.

Also for those of you who didn't know...............TBS now shows reruns of "The Office". I just found out the other night while channel surfing. Nice suprise!

I agree. It's just not that funny. In my opinion Tina Fey should write and not act. But hey if women relate to her and like it that's great. I have never watched more than 5 minutes of Sex in the City either since it was a "chick show". Even LOST has that "chick show" vibe. Someone is always pregnant or trying to save their baby from danger and the females are mostly victims. It would do great in reruns on The Lifetime Channel. I guess it works with the average viewer though since their ratings are so high. Personally I like shows that require a higher intellect to follow.

Too complicated. If they wanted us to think that there would have been a talking head where Pam said something like "I didn't want to hurt his feelings".

The show has never been sneaky...they always let the audience in on the truth...even if the other characters don't know.

With a cast of about 15, there are currently only 3 female leads on the show. If you watched more than 5 minutes of the show you'd realize this.

What....like, Maude? Barney Miller? Soap?

We are still talking sitcoms, right? Or does bringing "higher intellect" into a tv discussion leave comedy behind?

I agree. Hey Jury Duty...............you better remove your signature on the bottom of your posts. Some of these shut-ins that post here have a problem with it.

I like shows that aren't dumbed down for the average viewer. The shows that you mentioned are before my time a bit but I think they all had good intelligent writing. Comedies like The Office, Seinfeld, Fraiser, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Larry Sanders all were written for more intelligent viewers than most sit-coms. They are rare finds. Not only do you need good actors but you need good writers as well.

Hey what does the CFG! at the bottom of your post stand for? That wouldn't be a signature would it?

Oh yeah the redhead just died...........another victim...........what a shocker! lol It should be titled "As The Island Turns" .
Oh and maybe she really isn't dead like the Asian dude. This show is beyond pointless. You think ABC could do better than the cheap cheesy special effects too. I love the smoke monster. LOL! And the flash of light with the annoying sound when they travel through time. Lame.

I doubt it. This would be an awfully mean-spirited prank for Pam to pull, especially solo. I agree, we normally get a talking head to clear up anything sort of suspicious. Since we didn't get anything, I'm taking it at face value.

Sincerely,

Re: The Office -- "Lecture Circuit Part 2" -- 2/12/09

I agree that it seems way to mean spirited for a prank.

There's just something in the delivery, the hesitation Pam has, that makes me think there is some big news in that letter. I mean I'm not suggesting Fischer is a really nuanced actor or anything, but it just seemed obvious she saw something unexpected in that note...though this is all on memory as I haven't revisited the episode.

I just feel there's something coming. I hope it's not something like she's pregnant... It would seem a logical arch to go in... but eh...
