Re: Smallville -- "Legion" -- 1/15/09

Can Doomsday be killed permanently? I hated the red-headed kid, the other two are okay. I read the spoilers and Lois isn't going to be around much the next three or four weeks. And just when things were getting good with her and Clark. Chloe getting back her memories of Clark's abilities was nice. I wonder why there was no reference to the bald guy at the end of the episode before the break. Is Lana's secret that she is holding Lex captive trying to erase his memories of Clark? Can't wait for next week.

I didn't like their take on Lightning Lad 'cause I don't remember him being goofy in the comics books but it was cool seeing the Legion. It's a plus they used the 3 original members and no pink costume for Cosmic Boy.

Fail.

The legion was send to rescue Clark..

How can they even exist if Clark would have died without their help?
That fails so hard..

Without the legion brainiac would have won.

Gawd no. Smallville reached a new low with the casting of Saturn girl, or whatever her name is. Hands down the worst acting performance of the entire show's run... and this is Smallville we're talking about, pretty hard to take that crown, but somehow she did with flying colors. She talks like she has a permanent swollen tongue AND a new set of teeth that she isn't quite used to yet. They could have also tacked on a lisp and a stutter and it would barely be noticeably different. Plus she isn't even cute. At least Vandervoort has her looks going for her.

I have no ties to the comic, but I welcome anything they throw at us as long as it works. The Legion did not work. Three teenage dorks, none of which could act their way out of a paper bag, are sent back to help Clark? I'm sure it may have been orgasm-worthy for a comic book fan, but they could have just written in Oliver to save the day instead. These three tools served no purpose other than to toss out some "inside jokes/teases" about Clark's future. Terribly lame.

The only redeeming thing about the episode was Chloe regaining her memory. Sure it's the traditional "Smallville reboot" on a character, but it's Chloe we are talking about.

The thought the three actors playing the Legion were quite good.

We need some major league baddies to fill Smallville with no-goodness. How bout an episode where a blizzard hits Smallville and it turns out it was caused by Mr. Freeze and Capt. Cold. Or you could have an episode where an ape escapes from The Metropolis Zoo and it so happened to be Gorillla Grood.

Personally I think it would be nice to see Clark save someone other than Lois, Lana, Jimmy or Chloe for a change.

But that's the thing, they are important in the comic mythos. They give him insight into how important Clark is to the world, not just to those close to him in Smallville. It opens his eyes to see something on a larger scale. Green Arrow can't convey that as he is embroiled with being self serving when it comes to dealing with Lex. Even with the formation of the Justice League, Clark can't see it as a group beyond fighting Lex.

My take on not knowing of Chloe and the differences between the growth of Superman thru their history is that the Legion came back to an alternate reality that Smallville resides in. Of course, my insight is comic book based and Crisis may not have happened yet. I'm sure when Clark is ready, he can always use the Legionaire's ring to see for himself.

That's easy. He beat Brainiac without them originally, but he had to use that crystal. Then, the Persuader came back, so they followed and defeated him. However, he broke the crystal, making it impossible to defeat Brainiac with that.

Therefore, they had to help him and then return to their own (slightly readjusted, assuming everyone knows Brainiac WASN'T killed via crystal) timeline.

It was pretty straightforward, if you know enough about time travel to realize that whenever you do go into the past you create an alternate timeline since you were never in your OWN past.

I guess the only thing that wouldn't make sense is the missing baseball; if it disappeared because he brought it back from the past, wouldn't he have gone into the past in his own history?

Also, that is NOT Brainiac Five. Brainiac 5 is the biggest fuck-up ever.

Fair enough. They did get that across well enough and it did seem to have an affect on Clark, but why did three strangers suddenly get the point across to Clark? Jonathan, Lionel, Jor-el, the Martian Manhunter, Chloe, Lana and even Kara have all been telling him that he's meant for more than Smallville for years.

It's one thing to be told, "hey, you have these powers.. y'know, you're important to the world." It's another to be told, "these are the great things you have accomplished to ensure this future." What would affect you more?

Clark has always been in the here and now world of Smallville so it's been hard for him to see beyond that, no matter what those around him have told him. He's just simplistic and apprehensive about the use his powers and is seriously happy to live life on the farm.

Ahhh, I see. I remember having an LoD notebook in grade school. Very sad to hear that Hawk passed away a couple of years ago.

I like that theory. It works since Lucy has only been in one ep so they can even kill her offscreen if they can't get the same actress back.

I liked the episode well enough, but I 100% agree with this. Of course, I felt that her loss of memory was the "reboot", so Smallville pulled the rare "Rereboot" and put things back the way they should have been. Even when Chloe said that she still remembered Clark's secret, I thought they were going to do some kind of "I know you still love Lana" or something stupid.

Yay Smallville writers! Way to not fuck it up again!!

The people I know, love and care for.

Face it, you have three dorks show up that don't know dick about Clark. They knew Superman. They didn't provide a shred of evidence that they were from the future, just some clever "wink-wink, nod-nod" fan-service moments that meant nothing to Clark. For all he knew, they were just three meteor freaks, one with the ability to read his mind about krypton, chloe, his past, et al.

Clark knew them all of a few hours. I just think it is a stretch that he's ready to take their word about anything thus far without any proof, especially killing Chloe. Maybe if they come back they can bring back some photos or newspaper clippings about all the great things he did/will do.

Anyway, I hope they never show up again unless they recast all three of 'em, maybe a bit older. Maybe get an actress that doesn't sound like she swallowed a tablespoon of peanut butter before filming the scene.

Well, Clark always *has* been rather naive, at least on this show, so, while I agree with you, it's par for the course with him.

They also stopped short of telling him too many details, because from their persepctive they didn't want to upset the ("new") timeline.
