Happy to see that the people watching at still watching ........This had a full season pick up for me since the beginning cant give up on Daniels opps I mean Lance Reddick that easily .......Plus its good to see that its doing well in the 18-49 demo. I am guessing the better ratting in the 18-49 the better for the show (Fox has 1-2 for that night). Hopefully they dont pull this show half way through.....

.

House was hitting about 16-17 million pre-Idol last year though, I do agree that its no where near time to start being worried about cancellation though

Also, even though it was 5th in total viewers, it crushed the competition in the important 18-49 demo (Fox Ruled the night in that demo).

Nice for Fringe, I think it has even gone up from the previous week.

Last night was arguably the most important night of the new TV season with three of the most high-profile new Fall series premiering and all of them having one notable thing in common - being based on overseas product.

Indeed 10pm last night would've given any American who's a fan of British television a flash back to 2006 as the pilots of American remakes of both time-travel cop show "Life on Mars" and science-fact procedural thriller "Eleventh Hour" premiered.

What was surprising is that both premieres used almost the exact same script, a lot of the same shots, similar set design and costumes as the 2006 pilots of their British counterparts. The actors of course were different but in almost every case were a notable downgrade ('Hour' for example traded in Star Trek's Patrick Stewart in the UK version for Dark City's Rufus Sewell in the US)

Taking a very different tack was "Kath and Kim" which premiered earlier in the evening. The re-interpretation of the hit Australian comedy series bared little relation to its original show and re-made the premise into something altogether quite different.

None of this stopped viewers tuning in with all the shows scoring strongly in the overnight ratings despite a real mixed bag of reviews ranging from the scathing to the glorious.

Most notably receiving criticism was "Kath and Kim". Widely panned in critical reviews, the show nevertheless scored a 4.9/7 rating. Though fourth in its timeslot, the show did grow from the 4.6/7 rating lead-in of "My Name is Earl". This is very shaky ground however and coming weeks, not to mention the word of mouth, will determine if it will stay on the schedule.

A (slightly) more mixed reaction was received by "Eleventh Hour". Reviews proved iffy to the latest Bruckheimer-produced procedural which many fairly called a disappointing attempt at a more realistic "Fringe". Oddly enough the original $4 million pilot has been pushed back two weeks and the second episode, which was basically a cut down remake of the original 90-minute UK pilot, was substituted as the premiere.

Nevertheless despite competition from "ER" and "Life on Mars" it came second in its timeslot with a 7.4/12 share - equaling the rating of an episode of "Survivor: Gabon" that aired two hours earlier. The downside is, and the one everyone's going to be attacking it for, is that it lost almost half the audience of its lead-in - the season premiere of "CSI" which won the night with a 14.1/22 share.

Faring the best was "Life on Mars". The series had to overcome to enormous obstacles - the original widely-panned Los Angeles-set pilot which leaked online earlier this year and was discarded when new producers came onboard, and the much-loved award-winning original British series which has been one of BBC America's biggest hits.

The reviews soon came in on the recast, New York-based pilot and the word was cautious but good - general consensus seeming to be that it's one of the better pilots of a lackluster Fall season. Many critics were fans of the original show and while all cited the original as being generally superior, they admit that this is one of the few UK-US TV translations that may work.

The most common complaints seem to be the lack of the politically incorrect edge of the original (understandable due to stricter FCC network standards), and that no-one, not even a great Harvey Keitel, can match Philip Glenister's now iconic take on Gene Hunt. Many wondered how long the mystery element, which was wrapped up neatly in the 16-episode stint of the original, can be drawn out successfully across a full season let alone several.

Audiences seemed to dig it though with the pilot scoring a 8.2/14 rating - winning its timeslot and coming third for the night. Better yet it managed to maintain over 80% of its lead-in audience from "Grey's Anatomy" which scored second for the night with a 10.1/15 rating.

How much it will retain next week will be interesting to watch. The show's producers have admitted that while the pilot is a direct copy of the UK pilot - subsequent episodes take it in a different and potentially darker direction which we glimpsed last night (the final few minutes are notably different to the UK version). Lets hope they still keep the creepy test pattern girl who comes out of the TV.

Pretty bad numbers for dirty sexy money. Guess I shouldn't get too attached to the show.

Hope Samantha Who did well.

funny that CSI more than doubled eleventh hour's numbers as a lead in.

^ Yeah, not good for "Eleventh Hour" since "Life on Mars" held much better from the "Desperate Housewives" lead-in.

Fast National ratings for Monday, Oct. 13, 2008

The season premiere of "Samantha Who?" didn't reach the heights it did last season, but it did still help ABC secure a ratings win Monday night.

ABC scored a 9.0 rating/14 share in primetime, beating out the 7.3/11 for second-place CBS. FOX took third in households at 4.8/7, although NBC (4.5/7) finished in a near-tie with FOX among total viewers (FOX's numbers may also change some because it had live sports on the air). The CW finished with a 2.3/3.

CBS snagged the top spot among adults 18-49 with a 4.0 rating. ABC and NBC tied for second at 3.2. FOX averaged 2.4 and The CW 1.7.

"Dancing with the Stars" once again ruled the 8 p.m. hour with an 11.5/17. "The Big Bang Theory," 5.8/9, and "How I Met Your Mother," 5.6/8, put CBS in second. Game 4 of the National League Championship Series came in third for FOX, beating out the 3.7/6 for "Chuck" on NBC. "Gossip Girl" drew a 2.3/3 for The CW.

ABC stayed on top at 9 p.m. with the end of "Dancing with the Stars," 12.0/17, and "Samantha Who?," 7.9/12. CBS remained in second thanks to "Two and a Half Men," 8.9/13, and "Worst Week," 6.3/9. "Heroes" improved slightly on last week's all-time low, drawing a 5.2/8 for NBC. FOX's baseball coverage delivered a 4.7/7, while The CW held steady with "One Tree Hill."

"CSI: Miami," 8.6/14, moved CBS to the lead at 10 p.m. "Boston Legal," 5.6/9, was second for ABC. The NLCS drew a 4.8/7 for FOX, while the premiere of "My Own Worst Enemy" managed only a 4.7/8 for NBC.

Can Chuck get renewed for another season if ratings don't improve past 7million. Heroes looks to have lost 1/3 of its viewers from last season as a consistent trend now.

Will this be the season that CSI: Miami finally wanes? Two and a Half Men keeps chugging along.

Fun with ratings: Lots of people are DVR-ing 'Fringe'

By Rick Porter
October 14, 03:15 PM

Hey, remember premiere week? That time three weeks ago when all the networks were filled with optimism that this was gonna be their year?

Well, we finally know just how many people watched the shows that aired then, as Nielsen has released its first set of "live plus 7" ratings for the new season. The plus-7 ratings add people who watched a given show up to a week later to those who watched it the day it aired.

As has been the case since Nielsen started measuring DVR usage a couple years ago, shows that are popular with people in general are also popular with time-shifting viewers. The biggest gainer in terms of viewer numbers was Grey's Anatomy, which went from 18.47 million viewers in the same-day ratings to 21.16 million in the plus-7s (it also passed its network mate Desperate Housewives in the rankings, moving up from third to second overall).

That's about a 14.5 percent jump in total audience, which is pretty strong but not the best among the 20 shows I looked at to compare their ratings bumps. That honor goes to FOX's new series Fringe, which improved by more than 20 percent, from 9.4 million to 11.38 million. It still lost out to CBS' premiere of The Mentalist (16.79 million, up 8 percent from its same-day audience) in total viewers, but the gap was narrower.

The CW's 90210 also improved by close to 20 percent, although the raw numbers -- 2.94 million to 3.53 million -- aren't as impressive as some others. Other big gainers in percentage terms were NBC's Heroes (12.02 million, up 19 percent) and The Office (10.91 million, up 17 percent) and FOX's House (14.63 million, up 18 percent).

Number-cruncher extraordinaire James Hibberd has a handy chart of which shows gained the most in the adults 18-49 demographic that is the primary currency between networks and advertisers. As with the total-viewer numbers, 90210, Heroes and Fringe all benefited substantially in the plus-7s, as did shows like One Tree Hill, Bones and Lipstick Jungle.

On the flip side, not many people waited to watch The Simpsons, Family Guy or How I Met Your Mother; the three comedies only grew by 5 percent to 7 percent when DVR viewing was factored in. Ditto for Dancing with the Stars -- the Monday, Sept. 22 premiere was the week's most-watched show in both the same-day and plus-7 ratings, but it rose by only about 4 percent with delayed viewing.

That's still better than NBC's Sunday Night Football, which almost no one watched after its live airing on Sept. 28. It rose from 17.34 million to 17.35 million in the plus-7 ratings, a gain of .05 percent.

DVRs are in about 28 percent of homes now, up from 20 percent at the start of last season. That doesn't mean everyone who has one is using it, though: As Hibberd points out, the five broadcast networks got a combined 8.8 percent ratings bounce during premiere week, compared to 8.4 percent in the same week last year. That means that even with the plus-7 numbers factored in, ratings are still off a little bit compared to last season.

Here's a look at how the audience grew from the same-day to the plus-7 ratings for the week of Sept. 22-28:

Dancing with the Stars (Monday): 21.34 million to 22.16 million (+3.8%)

Grey's Anatomy: 18.47 million to 21.16 million (+14.5%)

NCIS: 18.03 million to 19.36 million (+7.4%)

The Mentalist: 15.6 million to 16.79 million (+7.6%)

House: 12.38 million to 14.63 million (+18.2%)

Heroes: 10.09 million to 12.02 million (+19.1%)

Law & Order: SVU: 9.68 million to 10.9 million (+12.6%)

Fringe: 9.42 million to 11.38 million (+20.7%)

The Office: 9.34 million to 10.91 million (+16.8%)

How I Met Your Mother: 9.79 million to 10.44 million (+6.5%)

The Simpsons: 9.47 million to 9.94 million (+5%)

Family Guy: 9.09 million to 9.68 million (+6.4%)

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles: 5.89 million to 6.65 million (+12.9%)

90210: 2.94 million to 3.53 million (+19.9%)

Gossip Girl: 3.33 million to 3.73 million (+12%)

Supernatural: 3.18 million to 3.62 million (+13.9%)
Interesting numbers!

Well, as long as it keeps beating the competition, CBS will keep it around. If the season premiere had 13m, that would not be good. I do think they need to shake the show up in terms of casting. Get some new blood in there.

Speaking of lead-ins, having Chuck getting those kind of numbers can't be helping Heroes.

I think CSI Miami needs to get a little younger especially for it being set in Miami. Besides Jonathan Togo and Adam Rodriguez, most of the core cast in 40 or older. The new coroner Megalyn Echikunwoke is a start since she's only 25.

They need to get rid of David Caruso and then maybe I would watch it for the first time. Yes, he is one of the few actors that I will not watch anything that he is in. His smug acting pisses me off.

I love CSI Miami but yeah, I agree some more younger characters wouldn't hurt. David C can be pretty boring sometimes.

And ugh, we got the presidential debate again already.
