Diff'rent Strokes - The 'very special' Bicycle Shop episodes
The one where Mr. Carlson from WKRP tried to molest Arnold and Dudley. I just watched this two-partner again last night on BET. I know it's an important subject and still relative today, but it makes me laugh. Gordon Jump was pretty brave taking that role.
Was this one of the first "very special" episodes of any show? I remember the last season of DS had VS episodes almost every week.

I remember seeing it as a kid. Kidnapping was all the shit back then. Every parent made their kids watch that episode. I knew the kidnapper as one of the guy's from Sesame Street, so it was equally fucked up.

I remember having to watch that episode as well. Tere was a hobby shop that looked almost identical to it in my area. I never set foot in it again. ![]()

The way I remember it -
Gordon Jump made Dudley strip down to his underwear to play "Neptune" in the bathtub. |

Yep, this one was a creepy one.
More creepy for me was the serial rapist episodes in Little House on the Prairie. That freaked me out as a kid. Also, there was a show I used to watch as a kid in Ireland called Jeremy Bear. That bear got kidnapped almost every episode. |

That clip played almost word-for-word the way I imagine conversations at Neverland Ranch.

That clip took me back to those "don't let anyone touch you, don't go down a grocery store aisle by yourself because you'll wind up like poor Adam Walsh or those poor children in Atlanta" talks my mother gave me years ago. That episode is still scary after all these years.

Did they actually call these "very special" episodes back when they originally aired? For some reason, I associate that phrase with Blossom.
If they didn't use that phrase, didn't the "very special" episode really hit its stride in the 70s with All in the Family and MASH? |

I liked the episode where the daughter committed suicide by overdosing.
And the episode where Willis was arrested for attempted murder of a cocaine dealer. And the episode where Arnold attacked a security guard. And the episode where Sam wet the bed. No wait, the episode where Arnold wet the bed. Or better yet, the episode where Mr. D wet the bed. |

I'll be honest. I thought Family Guy made this up. I truly did.
I am without words.
