Best pilot episode of a series?
So I just saw the pilot (1 & 2) for "Lost" and i got to say it blows me away. the production value that went into it must have cost more than an entire season of some shows. i just love the effects and beginning stories and to see the characters mesh so well so fast is just riveting tv.
so what do you think is the best first episode of a series to date?

The West Wing, Sports Night, Studio 60, seeing a trend here.....
Others: Friends. When I first got season 1, it was the first time I had seen the pilot since it's original airing and it surprised me how strong of a debut it was.
Freaks and Geeks. The segue from the cheerleader and football player boyfriend to underneath the stands with the freaks just may be the greatest misdirection ever.

The Shield, definitely. The very definition of "intense".
I also thought Buffy was a pretty strong debut, though the rest of the season was very uneven.

Alias, Nip/Tuck, Dawson's Creek, and Roswell.
I'm sorry but I think while "Six Feet Under' had an amazing pilot it has almost zero repate value for me, which makes it not good in my book. But I think the series is the most amazing think I've ever had the pleasure of watching on broadcast.

Smallville -- a great job of modernizing the Superman mythos.
Alias -- you can't watch it and not want to see more.
West Wing -- that show hit the ground running.
Roswell -- Shiri Appleby. 'nuf said.
Freaks and Geeks -- an instant classic from frame one.

The Pilot for Lost better have blown you away considering it costed $10M to produce it.

Alias. It had so much setup and then it turned that all on its head.
Everwood. I don't think I've ever felt as familiar so fast with a set of characters and town.

It has to be The Shield. Homicide is also right up there if I remember it right.
ETA: Nip/Tuck also deserves mention.
