PBS in Detroit just aired The Hot Fudge Comin Atcha Concert this past week. I know Hot Fudge was produced in Detroit but it was syndicated so somebody else should remember this show. It had a definite PBS vibe although maybe that was just the 70's?

As for Letter People, I still have my old cards from school where you had to put a sticker of the letter on the character. We would get to watch the show in class. And no, FantasticVSDoom, Letter People was a show on its own. In high school I met a girl from a rival Scholar Bowl team from over near St Louis whose father had worked on the show.
As for 3-2-1 Contact, I used to get the magazine. Plus, as I got older and began watching more mature films I saw The Warriors. Believe me it was a shock to see 2 cast members from 3-2-1 Contact in it

Wasnt the premise of 3-2-1 Contact a little wierd? Basically 3 teenagers would meet up at an apartment everyday to talk about science, then leave.

I used to LOVE the BASIC computer programs in the magazine.

That show was a trip. I'd buy it too (it's out there but too expensive)... The acting was so wooden at times though. And that one girl that thought she could rap. LOL!

OK, so I managed to track it down myself... It was called "Bread and Butterflies". Which seems a bit obvious now, but for years I thought that the first word had two syllables, like "Breadsticks and Butterflies".
Anyway, it was almost identical to other PBS shows called "Inside/Out", "Self, Incorporated" and "On The Level". Which isn't that surprising, since they were all made by a group called "National Instructional Television Center" in association with several PBS stations.

I've been searching for someone who might remember a strange little PBS show in the 70's or early 80's. It was broadcast in north MS, so I'm sure it was part of a larger distribution. It usually aired just before or after Electric Company. It might have been titled Wonder Wombat, about a rather melancholy thin green muppet, round head, big eyes, usually shot against a black backdrop. He often rode a bike around, sometimes wore a cape and pretended to fly. It was a really surreal, somewhat disturbing show. Anyone else ever see this show?

Can't answer your question, David. But I do appreciate the thread bump. The first post had a link to the Letter People video. While I never caught this on PBS, it brought back a flood of memories from kindergarten.

Zoon and Big Blue Marble for me.
Also, 321 Contact was a must watch for me. Earlier days, Electric Company and before that Sesame Street. Mr Rogers was also good fun for the surreal trips to Make Believe Land.

I was a huge fan of Newton's Apple and 321 Contact.
We used to get a lot of Canadian shows airing on the New Hampshire and Boston PBS stations.
Some of my favorites were:
Read All About It - which I remember being like Doctor Who in its terrifying-ness
It Figures
Inside Out
and some weird show I can't remember the name of which had a woman talking about your body in some 70s nightmare of an apartment.

The only way I can say this makes me feel old is in saying these kids shows were so much better in comparison to whats on for kids today. Out of all these shows I remember Slim Goodbody, but laugh now at his bad Jewfro. And The Letter People is awesome knowing it inspired the canceled MTV series Wonder Showzen.
