Well, at least Colbert isn't playing himself. I like it a lot better when guests are new characters.

Agreed. Having celebs just show up every week is weird.

I was thinking the same thing but I never saw the movie so it's just "meh" to me.

Yes it certainly did! Rest of the episode has been kind of a let down though.

What was the music that played while Homer was unemployed? Seems really really familiar.

Yeah, that's true. I've been laughing at King of the Hill more than I did during that Simpsons episode.

It wasn't a horrible Simpsons episode, but instead it just wasn't what I was expecting for the first episode of this season.

It's Debussy's "Claire de lune." It was featured in Ocean's 11, when the group is in front of the fountain towards the end.

I've heard the "I wish I spent more time at the office" joke before, rather recently I think. But where?

The gag with the "Better Luck Next Time" cake was familiar as well.

Agreed. I loved the opening, but the rest, while certainly not terrible, reminded me again why I stopped watching The Simpsons a few years ago.

Apparently I'm in the minority here, but I actually enjoyed this episode. The opening was amazing of course, and there were little moments that made me laugh ("semper fudge", "wherever the White Sox play").

This episode is still leftovers from last season, the true season 19 produced episodes don't start for a bit yet.

It's almost the exact same joke from when Marge became a real estate agent (only it was a sign instead of a cake).

The couch gag was the highlight of the episode, that's for sure.

Enjoyed hearing Colbert, but a lot of the jokes feel flat. Especially when the opening reminds you of the far funnier movie.

Certainly not the first time The Simposons has rehashed a joke. "There's a NEW Mexico?" is still one of my favorites, but it lost steam when it was employed a second time. A so-so episode, but this show is a shadow of what it was once. It kind of reminds me of a 100 year old man, sure you made it to a 100 but what was your quality of life?

Yep. The rest was pretty bad, though. Not a very good season opener.

I haven't yet seen the movie, so the jokes in the opening were lost on me. The remainder of the episode had no jokes at all.

Yet another 'agreed'. Wish they would have carried through with it however.

Colbert would be a great addition to the show, ala Phil Hartman. Not to have him play Lionel Hutz or Troy McClure, but to have him voice recurring characters in a similar vein. I mean, if he's got time to do so much voice work for Adult Swim, why not Simpsons?
