Well, of the Best Picture noms, The Departed and Little Miss Sunshine are definitely worth watching. They have the best dialogue and best casts, and both have a good amount of humor (LMS more so, though some one liners in Departed were great.)

One issue with LMS though, is that it worked better before there was a ridiculous amount of hype behind it, it's a very effective, very funny, small-scale movie, and it still is. But now that it's cleaned up the awards circuit, it has more expectation going for it, which hurts it more than anything (it's a complete movie, but not a particularly deep one... very enjoyable though).

The Departed also didn't strike me was Best Picture material when I saw it, so what do I know.

Letters from Iwo Jima, Babel, and The Queen are your more typical best picture noms. The first two are extremely serious, and the last one is an acting showcase.

This is the first year I've been able to timeshift the awards ceremony, and I'm looking forward to that ability.
