I have to hand it to Welling. He has improved so much over the course of this show that it is striking. He's turned into a good actor. Admittedly he's not given much to work with in this show beyond the bumbling farm boy. However, when he's been given more to work with, he's really given some fine performances. I specifically remember his great performance in the episode where he and Lionel switched souls(personalities), and he was great in this episode as well.
Season 6 has definitely ramped things up. If season 4 is the low point, season 5 was a rebuilding year, and now they are at the top of their game again with season 6.

There was a justice league episode where superman goes full out against darklord. Tom Welling would be perfect in that scene.
This has been my favorite smallville season.
