Joey 9/9/04 - Pilot
Just a reminder that Joey premiers tonight!
"...hands-down the best sitcom of the new season." - USA Today
Emmy nominee Matt LeBlanc reprises his Friends role as charming Joey Tribbiani in this comedy spin-off that continues the beloved Friends tradition. Joey, an aspiring actor, is off to Los Angeles to pursue his dream and begin a new chapter in his life. In this new town he's sure to face new challenges, both professional and personal. After reuniting with his sister, Gina, Joey moves in with his 20-year-old genius nephew, Michael, who is literally a rocket scientist. What Joey lacks in book smarts, however, he makes up for with people smarts, making him the best new friend his nephew could ask for.

I think the critics are being too generous with "Joey," esp. USAToday.
I wouldn't give it *** 1/2. More like ** 1/2.
It plays more like The Single Guy rather than Friends.

I'm boycotting this on general principle. Tired of having it shoved down my throat every time I turn to NBC.

Either way I will watch it, it looks funny.

The thing I love is how Drea de Matteo can be the mother to Paulo Costanzo and be Matt LeBlanc's older sister. Ages:
Drea - 31
Paulo - 26 this month
Matt - 37
Suspension of belief is high, but I'll watch it anyway

Just watched it, and it is very close to the leaked pilot that has been on the web for a while, if not identical except for the casting change. Note: I am pretty sure that it is longer than 30 minutes, so you might want to tape for an extra 5 or 10 minutes to get it all.

I thought this was very good for a pilot. The scene with Joey trying to keep up with the cameras was my favorite. Not as funny (yet) as Friends at its best, but certainly funnier than anything I saw on Friends LAST season. Solid start.

Just finished on the east coast....I liked it....there were a couple of parts I cringed at, but overall I'll be tuning in each week for now. The Joey character is just very charasmatic to me, I don't know why.
Drea's a MILF, too, btw.

I enjoyed it. I can see how some wouldn't, but the Joey character makes me laugh. I don't watch very many sit-coms any more because the ones I do like tend to get cancelled too early (The Tick, Andy Richter, NewsRadio, etc.) but I gave this one a chance and was pleasantly surprised.
I thought everybody was well cast and it had enough laughs to keep me happy. Hey, it is formulaic and it doesn't break any boundaries, but it's a bit like comfort food. It doesn't surprise, but it's comfortable and it's something you know. If the rest of the episodes are as good as this one, I think it will be around for quite a while. I really think the general, wider audience will lap this up like crazy too, and that never hurts.

What can I say, I am really good with words.
Or know when I didn't like something. We'll see next week.
