Ep. 2: The Model Home
(from tvguide.com):
"Orange County takes on shades of Melrose Place as Fox's new drama heats up.
[We're] not going for `classic soap,' says director Doug Liman (Go), but it sure seems as if the pretty people from the lush California locale are about to get themselves into a lather. For Ryan (Benjamin McKenzie), it means running away before Sandy (Peter gallagher) has to turn him over to the foster-care system, while Seth and Marissa find common ground after spying a secret meeting between his mother (Kelly Rowan) and her father (Tate Donovan). So things may not be 9021-over-the-top yet, but who knows---maybe Marissa and Seth share more than just a zip code."
One of the best parts of this show is the soundtrack - Phantom Planet (theme song); Rooney; and I can't believe I just heard Doves. I love shows w/ good music. Now they just need Jay Mohr to start singing '80s Christian-hair-metal.

This isn't really a spoiler since it has absolutely nothing to do with the plot, BUT...
Of course, I MAY have misheard some of the dialog. I KNOW that I'm right about the NBA portion of my analysis, though.
And even if I am right, it's not like one factual error is gonna put me off the show. But if it happens again... well, that's another story altogether.

I don't know why I'm watching another episode. The more I watch Marissa, the older she looks. Argh. Very impressive seeing them eat In-N-Out, though. Now I totally buy the realism of the "OC". Yeah!
I might stick around, just in case somebody gets punched. That really is one of the highlights of the show.

I don't think this show can get any cheesier.
The Poor Kid From The Wrong Side Of The Tracks actually told the Rich Girl Who Likes Him, "We're from different worlds."
I can't believe I plan to keep watching.

I do miss Melrose Place. While Dr. Michael Mancini has been reincarnated as a plastic surgeon on Nip/Tuck, maybe O.C. can fill the nighttime soap void, although it needs more babes. Next week we'll see how The Brow gets Puka Shell Boy and The Young Outcast out of their jam in the first 11 minutes.
Anyway I'll keep watching if only for Mischa Barton, who sure has grown up from the little girl selling cookies in Lawn Dogs and the mousy types she played in Tart and Lost and Delirious. Mischa is capable of more than just moping around and running her fingers through her hair, maybe if she turns into the town tramp to get back at her parents.

The song's called "Hallelujah", originally by Leonard Cohen. I've never heard the version used in The O.C. before (it might have been the original), but I've heard different versions used elsewhere recently--My favorite is the Rufus Wainwright cover that appeared in Shrek.

I sort of liked tonight's episode. I liked the fact that Seth and Marissa found some common ground. I guess I sort of liked the fact that Marissa's boyfriend actually has some good in him and didn't let Ryan die in a burning house.
I thought it was incredibly cheesy, though, when Ryan told Marissa that she shouldn't spend the night and she ran out of the house crying. I also thought it was weird that they could hear Seth's mom and Marissa's dad driving up to the house, but Ryan couldn't hear Marissa driving up there at night or her boyfriend's truck.
I also noticed Tate Donovan's loop. I thought he said '1987' in his loop, though. Oh well, no matter. It'd be better if he did, in fact, say '1986' to make Marissa a little older.
I'm digging Seth. He's easy to root for.

Can anyone tell me what the song was when Marissa came back to see that guy after the party. The only lyric I caught was "Alleluia" but it sounded like a nice song. Anyone? Anyone?

This is the second time I've heard it on a TV show, Without a Trace used it last season also.
I've liked both episodes so far. While it has its cheesy moments, the scene with Marissa and Ryan towards the end, I thinks it entertaining,
To bad Fox is going to kill it in a few month's when it puts it up against CSI.

This is becoming WAY too soap operaish for me.
But worse, my local Fox, in their infinite wisdom, is up to their old tricks again. Program volume way down (and I mean way down) and commercial volume AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Fuggum. I guess the only reason Im watching is because I live in the O.C. They could be filming in Canada for all I know.

Marissa's dad and Seth's mom almost got married to one another in the 1980's, and they do share some history together that goes back, probably to their school days.

My thoughts....
-yeah I think Marissa's dad said '86
-I think Marissa kind of looks like that actress that was "Claire" on L&O, and is the main character on Crossing Jordan
-Seth is starting to grow on me, I like his smart ass sarcasm
-I liked Marissa's boyfriend's line when they were in the diner "You're a long way from 8 mile"
