American Chopper -- Series Discussion Thread

Know this has been on awhile, but somehow or another, I'm finding myself repeatedly tuning in for Discovery's American Chopper "reality" series. I'm not even a gear head or motorcycle nut. Yet watching them design and build the bikes is oddly fascinating ... and, of course, the Teutul family's often hysterical. Especially Paul Sr.

I found the two-part "Firebike" episode moving ... one of the better 9-11 "tribute" shows I've seen. Very grassroots and hit home without grandstanding.

Go build bikes.

I think I saw that guy eating glass in the "freak show" booth at the state fair.

I watch it all the time too. The Discovery channel owns on Monday Night. Monster House, Monster Garage and American Chopper. The only thing I don't like about it is every episode is the exact same thing. Paul Jr has to build a bike. Has little time to do it. Paul Sr gets mad and yells at him. Paul Jr finishes the bike in time and redeems himself. I wish they would mix it up a little. I mean if he is building these bikes for the heck of it why is there always a week build limit? Or do they do that on purpose for the show?

I like the show also. The pattern is the same, but I like seeing how the bikes come together. The stealth bike should be pretty funky looking when it's done.

Yeah, it's more project oriented than being a continuing "reality" storyline. I don't mind the repetition, but I can see where it could bug folks less enthused than myself. More "This Old House" than "The Osbournes."

Groucho, if you aren't interested in the show, there isn't any need to post.

Love the show! Not a gearhead at all, but the bikes are just amazing. I just wish they focused more on the actual making of the bikes instead of the Teutel (sp?) melodrama each week, but I guess, that's the "hook" of the show.

I caught this show for the first time Saturday night with the 9/11 tribute bike. I was thoroughly entertained. I ended up watching it last night as well. I'm not a motercycle nut, but I simply cannot wait to see how the stealth bike turns out. I think I'm hooked.

For the uninitiated ... the "stealth bike" is a chopper modeled after the U.S. Army's next-gen Comanche attack helicopter.

Its too bad the father is such a nag nag beyotch.

Anyone else the son was working for,
they would be sued or in serious pain....
I agree with Groucho...Its too bad he did
not swallow the glass after chewing it.
Though at times he sounds like he already did.
He brings the whole show down for me.
And I sort of feel sorry for his sons. Because not
every person can deal with that type of abuse
(or what others call parenting).

Its really too bad because its a cool tv artform,
but the fathers attitude lost me forever.

I think watching the two "Old School" bike episodes will change your mind. Paul Senior's a softy who likes to bark. There's nothing even remotely "abusive" about him.

Great show! The family dynamic really sets it apart from Monster Garage. Better still, no Jesse James or WWE style commentary.

He only barks at Paul Jr.. I have noticed that Paul Sr. went too soft on Michael.

My dad got me hooked on this, I'll have to get my dad to bring some pics of his bike he made and post them. His looked something similar to this

I wish they would release the episodes as a season set rather than making you pay $25 per episode through discovery.com.

On that bike, I don't know. On my dad's, he went down to the Chevy dealership and bought a 350 V8, basically a car on 2 wheels. Pure Insanity You don't know how many times I was following behind my dad taking the bike to get something done to it where there would be near crashes from people gawking at it, people asking him to pull over so they could take pictures of it, people asking him to come to their store to make some sort of appearance, etc etc etc.

Best time was when some kid on a rice rocket bet him 100 bucks he could take him. Needless to say my dad was 100$ richer that day

Love the show. I am no gearhead but I ride a bike...a rice rocket and not a cool ass chopper but I still have a great interest. This show is tons better then monster garage. I think sometimes Jesse James is a little full of himself...anyways...

I was in New Orleans when they were there. I went to meet them, I have a hat signed by Paul jr, and Vinnie. Big Paul was not there, just my luck! Anyways...Discovery Channel was there filming, so I am going to watch next monday's since they will be in NO and I may see myself camera!!! They were filming us all in line getting autographs.

The bikes are AWESOME in person!!!

American Chopper (7/14)

Anyone else catch this?

Everyone can finally start seeing that Paul Sr. really does have to yell and scream to get Paully to work. I thought Vinnie was gonna kick his @ss last night.
