American Sitcoms based on Brit-Coms
With all this talk recently about Coupling and Father Ted, I recall that adapting British sitcoms for American audiences isn't exactly new. And in the past, there have been sucessful American comedies based on British comedies, such as All in the Family (Til Death Do Us Part) and Three's Company (Man About the House). Which got me wondering, what other American sit coms that were good and well recieved here were actually based on Brit-coms?

Fawlty Towers failed twice, once with Bea Arthur and once with John Laroquette; it might have worked if they had waited for Lithgow to finish Third Rock......
And wasn't All in the Family actually 'Till Death Us Do Part?

Cosby (the show that ran from September 1996 to April 2000) was based on the Britcom "One Foot in the Grave", and lasted four seasons. Not wildly successful, but better than many.
It's not a new trend, but it certainly seems to be getting more popular. Coupling and The Ortegas (The Kumars at No. 42) appear next season, some cable channel was debating a US version of The Office, Touchstone looking into a US version of Manchild, and the recently announced Father Ted are an awful lot of shows to be based on other shows.
