'JAG' Star Found Dead at Home, Suicide Suspected
Mon Jun 9, 5:42 PM ET Add Entertainment - Reuters TV to My Yahoo!

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Australian actor Trevor Goddard, who played Lt. Cmdr. Mic Brumby on the long-running CBS series "JAG," was found dead at his North Hollywood home of a suspected drug overdose, authorities said on Monday.

Goddard's girlfriend discovered his body lying on a bed at about noon on Sunday, Los Angeles County coroner's office spokesman Craig Harvey said.

A preliminary investigation indicated his death was a possible suicide by an overdose of as-yet unknown "illicit, illegal" drugs, Harvey said.

Notes were discovered at Goddard's home, but investigators did not characterize them as suicide notes, he said. "There was nothing in the notes indicating that he meant to take his life," Harvey said. The notes were addressed to a friend.

Investigators think Goddard died sometime after 9 p.m. on Saturday after having a telephone conversation with a friend from his home, Harvey said. An autopsy is set for Tuesday.

A former professional boxer, Goddard was "discovered" while competing at a light-heavyweight bout and asked to appear in a series of beer commercials, according to his Web site.

He built a career on portraying villains in many of Hollywood's top action movies, including tough-guy Kano in New Line Cinema's "Mortal Kombat."

He was best known to U.S. audiences from his recurring small screen role as Mic Brumby on the military drama "Jag" from 1998 to 2001. Goddard had just completed work on "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" with Johnny Depp (news) and Orlando Bloom (news).

I'm not a JAG watcher, but when I looked him at imdb, the only work I recognized was Mortal Kombat. I don't even remember that movie.

Still sad, though.

It was Cmdr. Ted Lindsey.

j.k. Very sad, but I didn't really care for his character.

'Pirates' Actor's Death Ruled Accidental
Goddard Dies From Drug Overdose

UPDATED: 7:06 a.m. PDT August 5, 2003

LOS ANGELES -- Coroner's officials ruled that actor Trevor Goddard's June 9 death was from an accidental drug overdose and was not a suicide.

Goddard, 37, had a recurring role on the military TV series "JAG" and appeared as a pirate in "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl."

Investigators had classified the death a suicide but Craig Harvey of the Los Angeles County coroner's office said Monday that an accidental multiple drug overdose killed Goddard. An autopsy showed Goddard had taken heroin, cocaine and prescription drugs, Harvey said.

Goddard, the father of two children, was going through a divorce.

Born in Perth, Australia, Goddard's work as a professional boxer led to an acting role in a beer commercial. He portrayed the martial-arts fighter Kano in the 1995 film "Mortal Kombat" and was Lt. Cmdr. Michael "Mic" Brumby on "JAG" from 1998-2001.
