I am inclined the agree with the majority opinion: we should not include news stories in this thread just because their weight will of course be 10 times greater than any fictional show could provide.
(That said, if we were to count nonfictional items, I think you'd have to go with the JFK assassination, the Challenger disaster, and 9/11, in no particular order.)
From a fictional standpoint: the finales of M*A*S*H and Roots have to be up near the top. I think the season 3 finale of The Sopranos was as good or better than anything that has ever been aired on television.
And come on, admit it -- you cried like a baby when Tom Green had his operation for testicular cancer. Go on, that's it, let it all out now...

In terms of shows, I don't know if they were great, but a few of the most memorable were:
"The Day After" tv movie
The final "Cheers"
and the "____ news is predicting George Bush has won Florida...uhhh, wait...no...yes..."

One of the most shocking moments for me lately was the last couple of minutes of Alias Season Two, when we learn that Sydney is actually almost two years in the future. I knew that something big would happen, but that totally blew me away.
Bring on Season Three, and bring on Season One on DVD!

I'm still waiting to see Alias when it comes onto DVD. Fortunately I read threads from the bottom up so I saw das's warning before seeing mention of the show. Thanks das.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
Homicide: "Three Men and Adena", "Fallen Heroes (Part 2)"
Farscape: "Die Me Dichotomy"
Star Trek: TNG: "Best of Both Worlds"
West Wing pilot
All hours of television that lingered with me long after I watched them and that changed the way I personally thought that TV could effect a person....or just really kick ass hours of TV

Seeing Xena's boobs pop out of her red glittery top as she finished the national anthem at a Red Wings Playoff game vs. Anaheim - priceless!!!!!

Yes, the Alias S2 finale is relatively recent compared to everything else here, but still, it was about a month ago. (Right?) Unless you're das and have seen every hour of television ever aired , people are going to get spoiled in this thread no matter what, unless everyone is super-vague. I think it kinda goes along with the nature of these sort of threads.
