Just a note on Chew's comment. JMS shopped the Babylon 5 series and its story arc to Paramount as well as other studios before it was finally accepted. Paramount later came out with DS9 and has been accused by many B5 fans, and I believe JMS even, of copying some of the ideas.

My comment can be used for both sides on this particular issue though: The DS9 "event" I referenced was telecast first by a year (1994 vs 1995).

But, on the other hand, I'm sure JMS had the "event" planned well before 1994.

just trying to continue the conversation without spoiler tags....

According to JMS (at least once on the DVDs, I'm sure elsewhere), the entire 5-year run was written down on 3x5 cards, one for each episode.

JMS has said in many interviews that he planned for the entire series several years before he got it on the air.
Also, below has always been the story and not changed. While I can't speak for the DS9 side of things I know the story has never been said to be false by JMS. In fact I recall him confirming that he shopped the show to Paramount before they created DS9.

People close to J. Michael Straczynski, the creator of "Babylon 5", claim he contacted Paramount with his idea for a show about an interstellar space station as he knew Paramount was the only big production company with a long tradition in science-fiction. The people at Paramount turned it down and Straczynski continued his search for a money-strong production company. Not long after Paramount announced the plans for "Deep Space Nine", a show strangely similar to "Babylon 5".

Another "interesting" DS9/B5 "coincidence":

In JMS' original plan, the Minbari were shape-shifters. This was, at some before production began, dropped, but the idea was carried over to the pilot with the assassin using the changeling net.

Question: Other than the bookends, can anyone remember any Season 3 or 4 spoilers in the movie "In the Beginning"?

Just looking for a "yes" or "no" answer

Never directly but most likely it's

(Note: season 3/4 spoiler)

Spoiler:

just a side note that this thread is getting dangerously close to revealing spoilers so I don't recommend anybody reading this thread anymore if they haven't seen up to season 2 yet.

So, I just finished up season two the other day. Honestly, I thought season one was merely decent, and the beginning of season two dipped just a bit. Through all of that I was averaging about an episode a night, compared to early this year when I started watching Buffy and was watching 6 or 7 episodes at a time. Anyway, somewhere halfway through season two of Babylon 5 I officialy became hooked on it, and decided not to wait on DVD sets and just watch my relatively low quality tv captures that I downloaded. I just finished watching 3x10, "Severed Dreams", and I belive this is a common reaction, but I just can't believe it keeps getting better every episode.

I do hate having to watch them at non-dvd quality, but I suppose I'll want to watch them again (and again) once they are out on DVD anyways.

Quality is actually pretty good on most of them, probably about the same as a taped copy. When I was previewing them on the computer they looked pretty bad but once on the TV they have been quite viewable.

I saw the third season episode Severed Dreams yesterday on Sci-Fi. Things are really in high gear now!

It still gives me goosebumps seeing
Spoiler:
the four Minbari vessels coming out of their jumppoints to defend B5. Then following that up with Delenn's message.

Reading the Lurker's Guide for this episode, JMS says he produced the show on half the budget of a typical Trek episode. It's episodes like this one that show just how much good writing and a little intelligence behind the camera lead to gripping television.

sorry Bando

and, not to forget:

(Note to Paramount: read the above aw, never mind.)

And today’s episode, Ceremonies Of Light And Dark, another great one, includes yet another great line:

Spoiler:
You see, it's like I've always said: “You can get more with a kind word and a two-by-four than you can with just a kind word”

(I really don’t think a spoiler tag is necessary for that one, but…)

I got sucked into watching S3 on sci-fi as well. Severed Dreams is one of my favorite episodes especially the scene Chew put in his post. But just think, War Without End Pts 1 & 2 should air next week. Let the fun begin!

Maybe someone should start a B5 S3 tread

I was certainly thinking about it, but thought to wait until the DVDs come out in August so Bando doesn't feel too left out.

But, I'm game if you are.

I just wanted to say that Bando should pay for getting me hooked on this series. Oh, and Seeker too.

It's all I can do to keep from reading the spoilers. Arrrgghhhh!!!!

I don't want anyone to feel left out but come August a S3 thread is going up. I'll try to contain my excitment until then. Boy are you B5 newbies in for some fun and excitment in August.

Thanks for being considerate with the spoiler tags, people. You can start a season 3 thread if you want, but I can't participate until August.

See you then!

That settles it for me.

"Heh heh heh" just has no meaning without Bando.

Which begs the question: do we start a Season 3 thread? If so, (and if we don't tie to the Sci-Fi broadcasts), how should we work it? Wait a week after release and then do an episode per day M-F?
