In general, last year`s group had some horrible people ( EJay, Jim, AJ ) but there were some awesome people like Kelly, Justin and Tamyra who had both a great voice and great personality.

This year`s contestants all have a somewhat good voice but lack a lot in terms on personality.

Really, the show should focus (not FORD focus!) on the contestants with the host and judges adding to the show and not detracting from it.
I find myself havng AI on the background and not really paying attention.

Regarding the post, above, I think I remember seeing Ryan on Blind date going on a date with some chick. I think he did it as a stunt for his radio show. He didn't seem really into the date but everything he said (i.e. what he wants in a woman) made me think he is really straight as a bow ... ahem ... I mean arrow.

Lastly, IWAS rooting for Clay the underdog to win but I am getting more and more ambivalent. JOSH needs to go because he cannot sing. He doesn't have a memorable look and well he needs to go this week. All the rest I don't think I could care less.
Later.

I remember reading somewhere that he is part of the First Maintenance Battalion. Per the Camp Pendleton website: "First Maintenance Battalion provides intermediate level maintenance support for Marine Corps-furnished tactical communications/electronics, engineer, general support, motor transport and ordnance equipment."

A press release on the Marine Corps website refers to him only as a "maintenance supply Marine".

Damn - no more hotties I'm done watching... still rooting for Clay(local guy), but I ain't wastin' my time with it anymore.

By the way, here's the rest of the show:

Next week, Josh finally leaves, then Treynce, then either Kim or Clay (depending on who's worse that week, but it'll probably be Clay since 2 guys, 1 girl, the girl should be safe), then Kim L. leaves and Rueben wins.

Blah.

Does anyone seriously believe that Carmen is attractive?

I could understand why you might have thought it a few weeks ago, despite how average she looks. But recently she's looked about like a few things that my bowels have ejected. Zits lining her face, her hair looking like a tornado struck it, and the fashion sense of my eccentric Aunt.

Gawd awful ugly. She seems like a sweet mormon but that's about it.

I find Carmen cute and attractive... different stroke I guess.

This year's AI suck... no one stands out. I am done watching since the outcome is pretty clear. Like Simon says, when he was asked who deserve to be voted off tonite, the bottom 3 tonite will be voted off in the next 2 weeks. Ruben is gonna win, it doesn't matter if it's Clay or Kim L. in the final 2.

You're right. I'm done watching too because the performances aren't any good. Nobody remaining has anywhere near that talent of the final 4 or 5 we saw last year.

I think for AI3 they need to think about revamping the way people advance in the early rounds or how they get voted off or revamp both.

Oh, I had a question about Josh. First, did anyone else notice that his quick wit wasn't so witty? Elder doesn't mean "Old." It just means "older." I am therefore an elder to a teenager. It doesn't mean that I'm some sort of an old fart. I'm probably in the minority in having issues with word choice.

Secondly, if you're in the armed forces aren't you encouraged to wear your dog chains but not to flaunt them when you do? The people in my family who have been in the army would wear their chains under their shirt. It bothers me that Josh seems to flaunt the fact that he's a Marine beyond the level of being proud.

I'm starting to wonder if half the people here are tone deaf. Whether you like her or not, Kim L. has a great singing voice. Those that say she can't sing - thank God you aren't producers or a fear the garbage you would allow on the air.

I made the Broadway comment about Clay weeks and weeks ago and I'm glad Simon finally told him where his place should be. Clay is not a pop singer, period.

Ruben didn't even sing the chorus of his song...WTF?

It was Carmen's time to go.

And for those who think Dianne Warren's music is crap - why the hell are you watching a show about pop singers if you don't like pop music? Dianne Warren is a genius for writing pop songs. If you disagree with that, you have no business voting for anyone on this show. Give credit where credit is due. Certainly her best songs weren't highlighted last night, but she is certainly in the upper echilon of songwriters in the genre. Tens of #1's from many, many different artists can't be wrong. I don't always like her stuff, but I see her talent. It's no surprise why Carmen lasted as long as she did in this competition - people think Billy Joel and Dianne Warren are a waste of time. Yeah - go ahead and vote for Clay despite the fact he has a terrible pop singing voice...I hope you buy his sorry album when it comes out.

I think that SleepyW has turned into the Simon of American DVDTalk Poster. He's on the hunt to find the best comments and if he doesn't approve he'll let you know.

She really isn't that good of a singer or performer. My problem with her is that her voice often goes flat during the songs. During these last two weeks she has started to do a little better, however, I don't think she'll make it as a Pop Star. She doesn't have the vocal range, nor does she have the look.

I too have said that since the beginning. However, I'm not sure that AI is looking for a "pop" singer. If they were then they need to get rid of Reuben who is more of an R&B vocalist. They need to surely get rid of Josh who purports to be a country singer. AI is looking for the next big artist. I'm not sure they entirely care what genre it is in. While it certainly wouldn't be in Broadway, it could be a vocalist.

Clay has consistently shown that vocally he has the strongest voice on the show. He has an amazing range, a strong vibrato, and he, unlike every other singer besides Reuben, stays on pitch.

And for those who think Dianne Warren's music is crap - why the hell are you watching a show about pop singers if you don't like pop music? Dianne Warren is a genius for writing pop songs.
I think the majority of us are just getting tired of these restrictive theme shows. It is folly to make the diverse group of singers have to choose from a narrow pool of songs. Futhermore, it gets tiresome for the views to watch that.

So that we can mock and ridicule it?

Jesus, it's a ****ing game show where they award the winner a record contract before they fade into the obscurity of some kind of "millennial" trivial pursuit edition. Or, in Kelly Clarkson's case, a Playboy layout.

If it was meant to be taken seriously, then it's news to me.

I hope you're kidding on that one. Did you watch him that night? He was undoubtably awful. Josh could not pull off the high notes and was off-key. Although I hate the whole Marine push he's gotten and his twang, at least, he usually has some vocal abilities. Last night, it was his worst.

Frankly, Josh was much worse than Carman. He was the one who deserved to go. Again, it was the whole military connection that has kept him around as long as he's been on. And according to Ryan and the cameraman, his family is black. Either that or they made a mistake.

As for Diane's songwriting, I like most of her songs. How many actual songwriters do you know by their name? She's had so many #1 songs. I knew they would get her on the show.

Kimberly Locke is overrated especially by Simon. Her performances this week and last week weren't that good. I'm sure all the praise is really going to her head now.

Clay, at least, ventured off from the safety of ballads. But he is broadway bound, if anything.

Ruben does very well on this show. I don't know what he's capable of outside of AI but he's holding up well.

Please check out Taylor Dayne's #1 hit of Carmen's "Love Will Lead You Back" if you've never heard it. There's absolutely no comparison.

Simon's girlfriend looks young enough to be his daughter.

I voted for Treynce but I knew she would be in the bottom 3.

It's all going to come down to popularity. It's a popularity contest at this point. You can see it based on the number of signs in the audience.

She may be a "genius" at writing pop songs, but she was a terrible guest judge. How could everyone sound wonderful when half the performances were terrible? Bring back Lionel Ritchie. He was the only guest judge who actually listened to the singers and gave constructive criticism.

On a side note, I don't think Clay will win unless his fans rally on the last night. He's either Broadway bound or he'll be recording songs for the next animated Disney movie.

LOL! Seriously!! What happened to that girl's face? It wasn't like that at all the first few weeks. I know, stress and nerves could bring this on. But she's always looked calm. Even when she was booted. Cute girl, but horrible skin (lately). And that very last shot of her last night.....not flattering at all. With the lights directly on her face. And the camera up in her business. Scary scary.

We were laughing at that mistaken "Joshua's Family" label, too. I was doing a quote from The Jerk: "I was born to a poor black family..."
