JIMMY FALLON's leaving SNL...

Speaking off-topic with the Al Gore subject from the other thread,

Did anyone catch in the pre-credits skit from last night's show where JIMMY FALLON told LORNE MICHAELS that he's leaving the show after this season to do a sitcom next fall? (This is during the moment in the hallway where they were trying to pass the time while Al Gore and Tipper were making out.

Fallon actually said it under his breath in the background (the Gores were in the foreground), and most audience members who heard it gasped. Fallon actually looked a little guilty after he said that.

Anyway, what do you think? Joke or real? FALLON is the best comedian on the show.

He may leave after this year, but it was pretty apparent that what he said was part of the skit.

This show is going downhill fast, it's a sinking ship right now I think.

I agree with AXP 103. I don't think it was under his breath. In fact Lorne commented on it.

As far as being the "best comedian on the show"...that ain't sayin a whole hell of a lot.

Fallon is very good in the skits and weekend update (which IMO is the only part of the show to tune in to these days).

That being said, I thought he was absolutely horrible and amateur-ish when he hosted the MTV Music Video Awards earlier this fall.

He had a funny little skit at the beginning where he mocked a lot of celebrities and singers and that was it.

He wasn't at all funny when he tried to joke off the top of his head in between acts or whatever.

I do enjoy his work on SNL though.

Thank goodness. I can't stand this no talent wanna be Adam sandler. The guy acts like he's on prozac every time he speaks. I figure he won't last off of SNL.

I still like the show. Jimmy fallon is good but if he leaves then they will just replace him with someone else. I will always support SNL. Week in and week out i look forward to watching it.

Perhaps this means we'll get Almost Famous 2?

I thought it went more like this

Lorne: So Jimmy, what are you doing for the holiday?
Jimmy: Actually I'm going to work on a sitcom
Lorne: Oh. Are you coming back to the show?
Jimmy: No

If it were the end of the season, I would actually think it was true because they'd probably think it was a funny way to let the news out. But since it's Mid-December I find it pretty unlikely, unless they had it arranged that he could leave SNL mid-season if his new show got picked up.

I like Jimmy Fallon, though mostly just for his music parodies.

Actually, I think he's trying too hard to be Mike Meyers if you ask me. Either way, I think he's painfully unfunny. Although he certainly doesn't think so. Has there been one skit where he doesn't laugh?

Anyway, I agree with those who think the show has bottomed out. It's past sinking ship. And yes, Darrell Hammond would be the only person to tune in for.

I'm suprised there are so many Jimmy fallon bashers in this thread. I've always thought he was one of the better actors on the show. He generally outshines the others in any given skit. He's always got his timing and the way he says his lines down pretty well. SNL is cyclical. It has it's good years and its bad years. We're on a downturn right now. Unfortunately, it's not cyclical in the way that we can predict when it'll get better.

If he did leave, I would be really surprised if he would do a sitcom.

Darrel Hammond is the most talented member of that cast..,

His impressions are dead on!!

He's up there with Dana Carvey and the late great Phil Hartman

As far as impressions go I would say Darrell Hammond is better than Carvey or Hartman. Dana Carvey's impressions were very funny but they were more caricatures. Hammond would probably be a lot more successful at actually fooling you if you were just listening to a recording. Phil Hartman had more characters than impressions. Does Darrell Hammond ever do anything but impressions? I've never noticed.

It actually went like this:

Lorne: So Jimmy, what are you doing for the holiday?
Jimmy: I'm flying out to hear some sitcom ideas
Lorne: Oh. Are you not coming back next fall?
Jimmy: No.

Wait wait, so which way did he said it?

If MvRojo is right, that actually mean that Fallon will return where as if Roto is right, Fallon is gone. So which of you are right?

if it is just a joke, i figure he'll leave pretty soon, since he's become kind of a "mtv spokeboy" type now. however, i dont think he's the best on the show. he does some good skits but the funniest part of his "performances" are when he cracks up in the middle of them. i think the girls are the best right now, hands down. plus fey always gets the better laughs, etc. on WU.

I'm right. It would seem that he's going to be here for the rest of the season, but won't be around next season.

Matt
