IMO pretty much no one deserves to win anything except the White Stripes (wow). No nominations for TOOL... -rolleyes-

Videos are just about dead as an art form, and it doesn't help that most music is awful to begin with.

when did it come out and which tool video was it. according to their list of elegible videos (any video that came out between july 2001, and june 2002) there was no tool video on there. and yes, i do agree that most of the videos do suck big time.

Well, shall we look into the illustrious MTV's 'thought processes'?

1) it's too long

2) none of the members of TOOL made the cover of People magazine

3) none of the members of TOOL are dating any young well-known plastic flotation devices

4) it's 'weird'

5) we didn't bother to show it because our palms weren't greased enough

6) nobody notices that their albums actually do go gold and platinum

7) they didn't appear on TRL and lick our asses

Sound about right? :)

Dr. DVD 07-25-02 12:23 PM

Wonder if Britney will perform again this year? I remember last year they pretty muched hyped the whole show around her performance and presence.

Forgive me for asking, but doesn't MTV have to actually air videos for them to have an awards show for them? I can't recall the last time MTV aired a video in its entirety without Carson Daly interrupting it with some stupid fans gawking over their selection.

My vote was "not that great a video", but that's me.

I am in total agreement...

Rypro 525 07-30-02 03:41 PM

just to let you all know that P. Diddy, and Shakira have been added to the perfromers list.
B2K, Bow Wow, Elton John, Nelly and Britney Spears are slated to presnet.

grunter 07-31-02 12:12 PM

Why doesn't MTV just save some dough and double-up their awards show with either BET or those "SOURCE" rap awards?

All they ever seem to play is teen-boy band pablum or rappity-rap-rap.

I'm so far out of MTV's target audience these days it's not even funny. Kids today weren't even born when some of my favorite new wave bands were churning out their one-hit wonders.

grunter generously applies ointment to his corns, pulls himself crookedly out of his put-put chair and aims a gnarled forefinger at the belly-shirted tweens frolicking in his apartment building's common patch of grass.

"You noisy kids get off my lawn, y'hear?"

Best. Video. Ever.

Gdrlv 07-31-02 03:54 PM

I think that I'm now officially completely out of touch when it comes to popular music. The only video that I've ever seen that was nominated for anything is the Jimmy Eat World and White Stripes videos. I know who most of these artists are, but I don't know their music. Big change from '95-'96 when I owned almost every alt-rock album on the charts. It's way nicer this way...there are so many better places to discovery new music than on MTV or commercial radio.

I agree with whoever said that video is a dead art form. MTV basically nailed the coffin shut about 5 years ago when they relegated videos to the early morning/late night hours. Seems like the only bands that even bother to make videos anymore are the ones that have broad based-teeny appeal.

Anyway, all that being said, I hope the White Stripes win for most of what they were nominated. "Fell in Love with a Girl" is a clever few minutes of film...

Rypro 525 07-31-02 10:15 PM

weezer wasnt allowed because it was beyond the time span of its release.

Rypro 525 08-17-02 07:01 PM

now this will make many happy and give mtv more ratings (i hope) the hives and the vines are both scheduled to perform. having never seen either band live, this should kick ass right guys.

Rypro 525 08-25-02 08:13 PM

jtlyk, if you dont know the videos or just wanna see what kind of sh*tty music videos are nominated this year, you can see them all starting mon to thurs from 9-12. and also, we all need to vote in the viewers choice award since b2k is winning by one percent over eminem. click here www.mtv.com
or call some 900 number

I am excited to see the Hives perform, but the Vines were on Letterman not too long ago and their performance was completely ruined by the idiot they have playing guitar and singing lead vocals, it was awful

Too bad the White Stripes aren't performing again, because they performance at the Mtv Movie Awards (I think) was great, they played a blend of "Fell in love with a girl" and "Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground"

White Stripes and their genius use of Legos should run away with any awards that mean anything, but don't get your hopes up.
