Firefox exe Application error

Today every time I open Firefox browser it locks up. I can't do anything with my computer. If I restart the computer I get a firefox.exe application error msg.

Msg says:
The Exception breakpoint. A breakpoint has been reached (0x80000003) occurred in the application at location 0x5b866df8 or 0x540566df8.

Any one know how to fix this without trying to remove & reinstall Firefox? Heck I got a ton of bookmarks.

You can backup the bookmarks, passwords from the firefox folder on your computer in case you want to do a clean install:

I've never ran into such an issue like yours tho that is strange.

I did a google search and found this:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1047038

Maybe turning off hardware acceleration on firefox?

I found the same answer about turning off hardware acceleration but like I said once I open the browser it locks up. All I can do is restart or reboot computer.

I backed up all my K-drama episodes that I d/led up to a week ago. I then did a restore from May 1st since problem just started today. That did not work. Did a memory test & that was fine as well as test on all hardware in my dell computer & everything is fine.

Re: Firefox exe Application error

How about installing an older version (downgrading) of Firefox?

That's my next step. I was able to turn off hardware acceleration & that did not work. I uninstalled FireFox & reinstalled & the browser worked for about 1 minute & then once again loced up & same error when I restarted computer.

Re: Firefox exe Application error

So there is no way to restart firefox once it locks up. That is an insane dilemma you're having.

I wonder what would happen if you restarted firefox with the addons disabled. That's all I could possibly think of right now that an addon might be causing trouble.

I'm out of ideas.

Could be your Firefox profile has become corrupted which is only resolvable by either creating a new profile or uninstalling Firefox completely, search for and remove all associated files/folders/registry entries, and installing clean. If you do that, I might suggest scanning for any potential malware infections using your antivirus and Malwarebytes (free version) once FF has been cleaned from your computer, just to be on the safe side.

Did/do you have a bunch of addons? Does FireFox safe mode do anything?

Your idea of installing a older version (52.0) worked, that solved the problem for now, thanks.

I have Malwarebytes, Norton Security, & SuperAntiSpyware all installed on my computer & ran all three & all scans back ok. Installing a older version of Firefox as Sonic suggested worked.

But in the past & just recently I been getting the firefox-patch.exe malware popup. It wants you install the patch & also opens a new tab with the Firefox logo. I always just cancel or close the popup. I installed another Ad Blocker & hope this stops it.

Thanks to all who replied to my problem.

Re: Firefox exe Application error

It's likely that one of your add-ons broke the most recent Firefox update.

Firefox is dying as a platform. Switch to Vivaldi.

Re: Firefox exe Application error

I just tried Vivaldi. Eh, pass. Not sure why, but I couldn't unpin it from my taskbar.
