I'm trying to decide between the Honor 8 and the ZTE axon 7 (also available at Best Buy). I love the sound on the Axon, but that Honor 8 is just great looking phone (especially in Sapphire Blue!) with a very good camera set up.

I looked at that ZTE Axon 7 as well, and it looks like another good option.

I'm kicking myself for not pulling the trigger on a Sapphire Blue 64gb Honor 8 for $349 at newegg.com last week during a huge cell phone sale.

I would have bought 4 just because! I did find an ebay seller that just dropped his prices down to $349 for the 64gb.

Actually it was $230. Just set up a deal alert on Slickdeals so you will know when there's a deal

While not that cheap, Newegg has a better promo going than the last one. $130 off the 64GB Honor 8 and $100 off the 32gb version. I went ahead and bit on it as they are the only retailer stocking the 64gb sapphire blue version right now.

I've been looking for a cheaper replacement for my iphone 6, and think it might be the upcoming moto 5plus. Looks pretty nice, and cheap enough that I'd feel OK not putting a case on it.

Just a heads up that the Moto G line has never had a magnetometer (compass), and the Moto G5 won't have NFC in the US. These are features you probably won't miss until you do. At the least, the lack of a compass makes it harder for GPS apps to know what direction you're facing/heading in (you typically have to move a bit before it guesses the direction you're facing).

More on how a missing magnetometer affected the Moto G4:

Well the NFC doesn't really bother me, I've yet to use that (does applePay use that? I kind of gave up using that anyway).

The specs on Motos website seems to list a magnetometer, though:

Lack of NFC never bothered me,i have had multiple phones both with and without it and it really made no difference.

Of course there are uses for it, but in the price range of the moto g5...it isn't a deal breaker for 99.9% of the people.

Yeah, it depends. I didn't think I'd need it until delivery.com was giving $5 off orders for using Google Wallet, which required NFC to even work, even though I was using it in the delivery.com app on my phone.

I just figured it's worth a head's up, since NFC is becoming so ubiquitous. The lack of a magnetometer really blindsided me, since I didn't even consider that there's smartphones where that isn't standard.

Loving my Honor 8. What a slick, sexy phone. Update to Nougat was ready as soon as I turned it on as well as their latest UI update.

So I got my refund check, and will probably go talk to cricket and Tmobile this week. I looked on Best Buy and the ZTE Axon 7 32 gb Mini is $199.99 this week, I am thinking this might be a good phone.

Re: No contract phone plans-experiences, suggestions, best phones

Anyone had any experience with Total Wireless? I am currently with Cricket myself and while I find it serviceable, there are too many dead spots in my area especially along the way to where I pick my daughter up in the afternoon from school. I have some family members that live nearby that have Verizon and seem to be pleased with it but for no more than what I use my phone I find their plans costing more than what I would like to pay per month.

My wife has Straighttalk and likes it, but from what I could tell their pricing is around the same as Verizon for the lowest priced plan. From what I have read Total Wireless seems to be under the Tracfone umbrella but uses Verizon towers.
