Buying Apple products at Apple store/Apple website vs Other retailers

I'm looking at getting a new iPad for my mother this Christmas. Specifically an iPad Air 2 with 128 GB

Apple sells it retail for $499 at their site and store (which is their MSRP)

Saw the same device is being sold at Best Buy for $374

Are there really any advantages to purchasing it direct from Apple as opposed to another retailer other than a much higher price?

$125 cheaper at Best Buy is a huge difference.

I did see that Apple is giving away a $50 Apple GC today only.

Or is it just the allure of going into a B&M Apple store/buying from their official site that attracts people?

Same can be said for other Apple devices like iPhone or Macs.

I bought my Ipad at Costco and my phone at the AT&T store. I can still take them in to the Apple store for service if I need to so I don't see any need to buy them there.

I bought my original iPad at an Apple Store and it was fine.

I bought my current iPad Pro at Best Buy for the same price as the Apple Store and didn't have any issues with the transaction, even got Apple Care from Best Buy.

No real reason to go out of your way to an Apple Store.

It doesn't really matter. Apple warranty is from when it originally activated.

I bought a refurbished iPad pro 12.9 128gb for around $500, and it still holds original warranty from original in service date.

The only thing I would always suggest is purchase AppleCare+ which you can do at Best Buy or from Apple within sixty days of purchase. At that point it doesn't matter where you bought it from.

I've had my iPad Air 2 since its launch in October 2014 and its still a fantastic product. but I'm just waiting for a refresh that's worth a damn. The 9.7" iPad Pro is the second worst iPad refresh, right behind "The New iPad" (iPad 3).

Re: Buying Apple products at Apple store/Apple website vs Other retailers

I ended up purchasing the iPad via BestBuy.com

1st off, much cheaper than Apple online and store and saves me the hassle of driving to the Mall and searching for parking. The Mall where I live, where the Apple store is located, is horrible on weekends for parking.

Just got a shipping notice a few hours later as well.

Convenience is always crucial: I live within a 8 minute walk to the nearest Apple Store - Best Buy is farther away. Clearly for you Best Buy is better.

Buying anything is always far quicker at the Apple Store as well: you can pick up anything that is on a shelf, pay for it with the Apple Store app (the receipt is instantly emailed to you) and walk right out. For something like an iPad, grab the nearest Apple store employee, they bring it to you and you pay to them directly with Apple Pay or CC. The whole waiting in lines thing (or as happens in BB and others a frantic attempt to get you to buy additional services or things) simply doesn't exist.

Lines at the Apple Store obviously do exist, if you insist on buying your new iPhone on release day.

That's if you can find an employee that is free that can actually ring you up. I've had several employees tell me that they couldn't ring me up. Since they have no cash register area you are then just a guy standing in a store at the mercy of finding someone that can actually ring you up. It is fun seeing them scurry when paying with cash for something.
