Well.. so far, so good.. I switched the the S7 Edge while waiting for the replacement and it's a fine unit as well. It's actually not much different at all aside from a few features that most people would probably not find worthwhile enough to switch back.

Interesting working with Best Buy on all of this. At the end of all of this - between my wife and I we will have paid for one new Note 7 phone (the other was a BOGO), a 256gb card and GearFit (Promo at time of original purchase), 4 vr gear headsets (2 were offered when we moved to the S7 edge, 2 more were offered from when we moved to the Note 7 yesterdays) and a $50 credit. If I really wanted to I could have pushed for 2 32" hdtv Samsung TV's as well (current promo for purchasers of the S7. Since this promo was within the 14 days of when we upgraded top the S7 we were eligible. Even if we were returning them to move to the Note 7 it wouldn't have mattered if we did it before the move).

Re: US Government urges Note 7 users to turn off and stop using the phone

Samsung phones in other countries were crappy quality, right? So maybe that spread to the US market.

Wasn't South Korea accused of flooding the US market?

Yet another Replacement one...

Whoa
" Klering says he felt Samsung was helping him, until he got a text message from a Samsung representative that was not intended to go to him.

That message read: Just now got this. I can try and slow him down if we think it will matter, or we just let him do what he keeps threatening to do and see if he does it

"It made me think you know they're not taking this serious enough and it's time to move on," Klering said."

Well if it does appear to still be a problem and they do another recall then I'll probably be looking at the Google Pixel since I Verizon already and it's their exclusive. But, for now, I'll hang onto the Note 7 and see what happens here.

Just beware that the Verizon Google pixel comes with a locked bootloader and perhaps more importantly software updates would go thorough Verizon. Monthly security patches would come through Google. Last time this happened was on the Verizon gnex and which got very slow updates.

Re: US Government urges Note 7 users to turn off and stop using the phone

Samsung needs to get to the bottom of the problem and move onto the Note 8....fast track it.

Now new ones melting.... not a good sign.

Is it really a widespread issue? How many fires have there been?

This is the (1, 2, 3, 4) fifth replacement Note 7 that has caught fire in the US in the past week that we know of. It seems likely that there are more. AT&T has stopped selling the phones entirely, while the US Consumer Product Safety Commission says it is "moving expeditiously" to investigate, though perhaps even that isn’t quickly enough.

For it’s part, Samsung has issued a statement saying it is investigating the fires, though it has yet to determine that a "product safety issue exists." It’s possible that Samsung is letting US regulators take the lead on the investigation after it was criticized for launching its initial recall of the Note 7 without going through the CPSC.
Yeesh.

It happens when the battery charges? I remember Samsung first said "caused by external heat source", wouldn't be heat from CPU or screen?

Re: US Government urges Note 7 users to turn off and stop using the phone

This is hard to believe. Back when phone batteries were more commonly user-replaceable, I remember buying no-name $10 batteries. I can't imagine them being any safer than these official Samsung brand batteries. I probably still have a few of them lying around. I'd better throw them out.
