If Apple fails to amaze me, I might just have to take the leap to Samsung next year.

Re: iPhone 7

I'm still on an iPhone 6 for work, so I might be due for an upgrade. Curious about this, mostly about the headphone jack thing.

Re: iPhone 7

Been on the iPhone since 2008 and this would be my typical year to update but I'm also taking a wait and see approach this time.

Re: iPhone 7

All signs seem to point to more of the same. Timing didn't work out for them; do they skip a 7s and make a drastic change for an 8 at the 10 year mark for the iphone? Or will they follow the trend and just speed up whatever we see next week?

Re: iPhone 7

My wife's iPhone 6 is starting to crap out (battery, speaker), so it will be time to upgrade her. I'm sure there will be some halfway decent trade in/up deals. Just have to see what they are.

Re: iPhone 7

I'm still running an iPhone 5 - which started to crap out months ago. Unfortunately, can't hold out for another cycle so I'm likely in for the 7 either way.

This is where I'm at I've had the iPhone since 3 and they are so far behind the Galaxy at this point.

Do you mean the 3G (2nd iPhone) or the 3GS?

Re: iPhone 7

At this point I'm not even sure what I want or need out of a new iPhone. The 6 has good resolution, a lot of storage and still seems reasonably fast. It seems like these days the primary reason to upgrade is to have a device which optimally runs the latest OS and apps designed for the OS.

Yeah, the smartphones have hit a bit of a plateau. The big iPhone changes were things like new cell data speeds (3G, LTE), and screen size changes (4", 4.7", 5.5" for Plus), or big new features (Siri). The more iterative changes (CPU/GPU, RAM increase, camera) aren't as exciting to most.

The biggest story about the iPhone 7 is actually about the removal of a feature; namely, the removal of the headphone jack.

Re: iPhone 7

As often as I listen to music at work while charging my phone, I don't like the idea one bit. Sure, I could use my Bluetooth headphones, but I actually like using my wired ones more.

I am on the "Apple Upgrade Program" and I love the 6S. The removal of the headphone jack may be enough for me to pass on this upgrade.

Two of the recent functional additions to smartphones have been useful: fingerprint scanner and water resistance (not on iPhone yet).

I like USB Type C and the new iris scanner on Samsung, but those reasons alone are not enough to justify an upgrade.

Yeah, I think the fingerprint scanner was the last "cool" new feature on the iPhone, and that was added with the iPhone 5S.

Apple is probably going to stick with their Lightning connector for a while longer; I don't know if they'll ever go with a "standard" connector instead of their own.

Re: iPhone 7

I think what Apple can do to "refresh" their phones is to revamp the look and feel of iOS. It doesn't have to be anything as open as Android, but to me, iOS has had basically the same appearance for too long, and while that's comforting to some, it's also getting stale and boring.

If they make that software backward-compatible (and they should), it wouldn't make people need to buy a new iPhone, but I think it would generate excitement and make the iPhone feel less stagnant.

Iphone 7 features revealed

Quote:
The new features were first noted by AppleInsider, and Forbes helpfully broke them down into the following list:

New True Tone displays like the iPad Pro range, with laser based proximity sensors for faster response times

32GB, 128GB and 256GB storage tiers will replace 16GB, 64GB and 128GB

2x 12MP dual rear camera limited to iPhone 7 Plus, uses 1x wide angle and 1x telephoto lenses

Upgraded ambient light sensors on both new iPhone cameras for better low light shots

Camera flash LEDs doubled from two to four with warm and cool colours

3.5mm headphone jack removed

Lightning EarPods and a 3.5mm to Lightning headphone adaptor included in the box

Second external speaker and integrated amplifier for louder, richer output

Basic IPX7 water resistance both phones can withstand splashes and full submersion for up to 30 minutes. Not quite Galaxy S7 level (one hour+), but close.

2GB RAM for iPhone 7, 3GB RAM for iPhone 7 Plus
Next generation A10 chipset sees CPUs hit 2.45GHz clock speeds and 20-30% performance gains

3D Touch 2.0 sensor with more distinct haptic feedback
Home button replaced with non-clicking touch sensor with haptic feedback

Antenna bands removed from the back of both models for cleaner look

Two new colours: dark black and piano black (latter in limited quantities for 256GB model); space grey colour option ended
nothing crazy but still getting one

I'll be coming from a 5S, so huge jump for me.

Now to figure out this AT&T no longer rolls over unlimited situation.

I've been an att customer since the first Iphone and have upgraded to each new numbered Iphone since the first (3G to 4 to 5 to 6plus) and have not had any problem keeping my unlimited plan so I assume itll continue.

I think I'll take this exploding note 7 back and get the iPhone 7. I'm so used to them and this note is still weird for me to get used to. I hope we see apple watch 2 as well

Why, also you will never get another iphone since it's going to be on all of them now.
