For those still on the Verizon legacy unlimited data plan, Verizon plans to increase the cost from $29.99 to $49.99
. Those under contract should stay at the current price until the end of their contract.

Re: Verizon to increase cost of unlimited data by $20

Oh fuck right off Verizon. My contracts don't end until next year, so from now until then I'm going to use my mobile data for everything. Try to rack up the most amount of data possible each month. Then when my contract ends I'll go to T-Mobile.

Suck my balls, Verizon.

As long as it means keeping unlimited data, then I am willing to pay more. Even the additional $120 that I would be paying would be peanuts compared to what I would pay if I moved to another carrier.

What are doing where you use so much data? Video? Torrents?

Re: Verizon to increase cost of unlimited data by $20

I'm actually tempted to move to T-Mobile before my contract is up. They're cheaper than Verizon and will pay my ETF if I switch. I won't make any moves just yet in case public outrage cause Verizon to change their minds.

No torrents.

Netflix, youtube,hbo go, XFINITY, etc.

I have 2 jet packs and a Verizon 4GLTE broadband router with voice and use it for my home Internet as well as my Internet away from home. Some of the lines are for my friends.

Other carriers allow unlimited data, but not on jet packs, 4GLTE broadband router, and do not officially include unlimited hotspot on the phone.

Re: Verizon to increase cost of unlimited data by $20

On further reflection, $50 for truly unlimited data still isn't that bad of a deal, especially since Verizon is still the most reliable network, and one of the fastest networks in my area. I'll see how I feel when my contracts start expiring.

Did we say 49.99? We meant 79.99 for D.Pham4GLTE (>60GB) and his family.

Can we tweak our voice usage in the plan or will making changes force us off the grandfathered plan and make us go to their XXL plan or whatever?

Re: Verizon to increase cost of unlimited data by $20

That Google plan looked awesome and I'm sure I don't use more than 2 gigs a month and checked and ... 11+ gigs last month I guess I've been enjoying Person of Interest and BTTF 1-3 too much on Netflix/Amazon.

Screw it I'm done looking and staying with Sprint $55 unlimited cell talking and text and web and 500 mins landlines (which I never exceed) and $400 for the latest and greatest every two years (iPhone 6S 128 gig is $400 with 2 year contract).

My understanding of T-Mobile's unlimited plan is that only the first 2GB per month are 4g and then the data is throttled to essentially 2G thereafter. Is that right?

No. With their individual Simple Choice plan, you get 1 GB of 4G LTE included at the $50 per month level, 3 GB at $60 level, 5 GB at $70 level, and unlimited at $80 level. If you exceed these levels, speed drops to 2G, but there is no surcharge.

There is also a new promo plan for four lines at $120/month:

Each line has 10gbs to use before it drops to 2G.

Sprint just announced they're going to throttle unlimited plans after 23 GB in a month. Verizon is now the only carrier that has a truly unlimited data plan. Seems worth the price increase to me at this point.

Keep in mind that if you go over 22gb, you may be network optimized in high load towers

You can tweak voice and text without affecting unlimited data

Actually 22gb of on device usage is adequate for me(which att,T-Mobile and Sprint don't allow anywhere near 22gb)... Most of my usage is through hotspot or using it as my home Internet.

I wouldn't reach that high, 11 gig is high for me, I was using my phone constantly to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime and Hulu and streaming music.

The amount of data used would also depend on the network and how it is used. For example, tethering my surface pro can use about 5gb an hour. When on a mobile device over a mobile network, Netflix should use well under a Gig an hour.

Of course this is on a fast network (I can get speeds exceeding 100mbps at home on Verizon 4GLTE). A slower network would cause Netflix to adjust it's quality accordingly

didnt this end years ago?

I could have been grandfathered in but I believe I have changed phones 2-3 times since then.

Verizon still allows grandfathered unlimited data users to keep unlimited data. Basically if you are on contract then your price won't increase until you are off contract. All of my unlimited data lines are currently under contract.
