Re: iPhone 6

Hopefully the 2 versions are being released at the same time since I want to compare them and see which one will be the better fit for me.

Re: iPhone 6

I've upgraded every two years (original > 3GS > 4s) but sat out the 5s because it didn't have the one thing I really wanted, which was a larger screen.

Since it appears the 6 will have that (at the very least), I'll be upgrading right away. I will say, considering my 4s is 3 years old now, it's still performing fairly well.

Re: iPhone 6

Considering I still want my phone to easily fit into my pocket, the last thing I want is for it to be bigger. A friend of mine has a gigantic Samsung and the only reason she can use it as a phone is because she carries a purse. I can't imaging cramming that thing in a pocket.

The current size is perfect for me.

Re: iPhone 6

Then you should get used to disappointment. There will still be a 4" iPhone, but it will be this year's budget model, an 8GB iPhone 5S (probably in the same plastic shell as the current 5C). Everything else is going to be larger.

I've long felt that the 4.5" range was the ideal "sweet spot" for smartphones, and now I'll be able to get that in an iPhone (unless there is something REALLY compelling about the 5.5" model).

This will be especially important if people want to compare the two phones, and their interoperability with the new iWatch.

Re: iPhone 6

I think Apple finally "got the religion" and adopted NFC for the following reasons:

1. Despite several attempts by Apple to persuade people, nobody wanted to build a mobile payment terminal using Bluetooth 4.0 (LE) connections. The range of Bluetooth 4.0 signals--up to 30 feet!--may have something to do with this.

2. The Japanese, South Korean and (increasingly) Chinese cellphone carriers want NFC for mobile payments. NFC mobile payment systems such as Mobile Suica and Rakuten Edy in Japan and Olleh Touch in South Korea are widely used by many cellphone users.

3. Because the iPhone 6 case design is all-new, they can now design it right from the start to incorporate an NFC radio/antenna subsystem. It may work using the general antenna design almost identical to that of the HTC One (M7 and M8 models)--indeed, Apple has a cross-licensing agreement with HTC on this antenna design.

4. The addition of Touch ID plus additional security measures means Apple is reasonably satisfied there are enough security measures to run the iPhone 6 as a mobile payment terminal using NFC.

I hope that isn't the case. The 5C doesn't seem bad but I'd prefer a metal shell rather than a plastic one. I really don't think I want a phone that's quite so big though. My current phone sometimes feels a bit too big for my pocket so anything more will probably bother me.

I've got big pockets

But seriously, if its the Samsung Note (for my purposes) that's just way too large. But something akin to the S5 in size is fine. Beyond that point in size, I'd also think it too big.

I'm not sure what RoboDad is referring to. iPhone 6C talk has tapered off since April -- given the 5C was a flop in comparison, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple just offed the line entirely.

The iPhone 5S will presumably be discounted once the 6 is announced, but in terms of current hardware and such the smallest screen will be the 4.7"

Re: iPhone 6

I strap my phone to my are every day for running or gym. So hopefully the 4.7" model won't be too much bigger than my 5. If so, maybe the iWatch will work. Last option would be to switch to a Nike GPS watch and use an iPod. But I'd hate to buy more stuff.

All I was saying is that it would be a nearly zero cost change for Apple to throw the 5S innards into a 5C shell, and the materials for that case are much cheaper than the 5S shell. Given that, it wouldn't surprise me to see them follow that path. They may, of course, continue the existing 5S shell for the budget phone.

Looks like you can watch a live stream of the event. But the article I found said only if OSX or iOS.

Re: iPhone 6

I'm eager to see bigger Apple phones so that everyone that's complained about large phones not fitting in their pants the last few years can finally realize they've been wrong

Re: iPhone 6

I'll take the smaller (bigger) one I think. I don't need a giant phone.

Then again, if the bigger phone has better features...hmmm.

I don't think Apple has updated their Windows Safari in years. I wouldn't be surprised if you could use it...but damn, that thing must be a slug.

So, it's pretty much a given that the earbuds will be "Beats" branded, right?

I doubt the pack-in set will be. Probably didn't have enough time to make the change. If anything, they may just throw "Beats" onto the side of the ones they've always included.

Apple earbuds are superior to Beats. Let's hope they don't include that junk.

Re: iPhone 6

So basically all the leaks were accurate. 4.7 and 5.5, 1334 x 750 and 1920 x 1080

iPhone 6 Plus sounds silly.
