Re: iPhone 6

I guess if you live in the USA and never travel, voicemail is of use to you. If you travel a lot then you discover that it is costly. Goto the USA with your Canadian Rogers phone, and let a few calls goto voicemail. The unanswered calls cause redirects that cost you about $1 each time. If you have no voicemail the cost is zero, but the call will be in your log so you can get back to the person.

When I asked T-mobile to remove my voicemail, they thought I was from Mars.

Now that I live in Singapore, I have it removed from my service. Pretty much everyone does the same.

Text messages are free in most countries. Receiving a text is free even when roaming. Text are far more practical than voicemail.

Honestly talking on the phone out loud in public in Asia is considered rude. Everyone around me does not want to hear me asking Siri to message my wife, or to set my alarm. Americans have a habit of chatting on about personal drama on wireless headsets everywhere. So I guess if you are in the elevator with six others, and you and you openly ask Siri to remind you to stop at the drugstore to buy glow in the dark, rainbow colored, strawberry flavored, ultra ribbed condoms, you are not embarrassed, right?

Common, you laughed, I know you did!

Re: iPhone 6

Okay, so local cultural norms may affect the usefulness of a particular feature, but that's not the same thing as those features being gimmicks. "If you live in the USA..." well, the USA is a big place a few hundred million people live here, and we spend a lot of money on tech, so it's not like it's so crazy to expect tech companies to create features that Americans consider useful.

How do you figure? That same phone is also designed for a lot of other things.

This is true. I "hold my phone up to my ear" the least of all other things. However size is still an issue. For example, as mentioned I carry my phone in my back jeans pocket. Something as big as 5" screen I worry might not survive.

Also I strap my iphone to my arm for running and in the gym.

I'm not saying any particular size is "stupid" but an individual issue. For texting, checking email and such, would love a big screen.

Re: iPhone 6

I will be buying an iPhone 6 for sure. I will amuse myself with the latest incarnation of Siri. I will be sure to ask her to remind me to buy a "glow in the dark, rainbow colored, strawberry flavored, ultra ribbed condom". I once asked "How do you rob a bank?", she said "Please chose a bank from the following list....". Damn amusing, I think!

Really I love my iPhone 5. I use it for at least 75% of my internet surfing. The bigger screen will be great!

Re: iPhone 6

Meh, I'm ok with the new screen sizes.

I hope the new idevices will still use the same lightning av cable.

The new LG G3 has some nice specs. 13mp camera, 2.5 ghz quad core, 2 GB ram. I hope the new iPhone offers similar specs. It's probably expecting too much for the iPads to offer 256 GB.

Yes it will use the same Lightning cable. As for specs, what you should be hoping for is that it takes better pictures and offers better real world performance. Specs are meaningless. Apple has its own 64bit CPUs which are not clock for clock comparable to anyone else's. iOS apps are written in a compiled language vs. an interpreted one on Android, photos chiefly depend on sensor, lens and software quality, etc.

AnandTech for instance offers excellent performance reviews.

Re: iPhone 6

Looks like a few rumors that they will do away with the headphone jack.

http://www.nydailynews.com/life-styl...icle-1.1826371

Maybe I've dunk the cool aid, but I don't see this as that big of a deal. Big yes, but not "I'm dumping apple if they do that" big.

For one, I've been looking for a way to control my music without touching the phone (while on a run etc). Can't seem to find a reliable way to do that. Being lightening connected should offer a lot more options. Plus Bluetooth is more popular than ever.

One draw back would be the inability to listen to plugged in headphones while also charging.

And most headphone makers would come out with a lightening version.

Re: iPhone 6

I'd want the headphone jack. I'd probably get the lightning headphone jack adapter. Not sure I am ready for bluetooth headphones - I'd just hate to have yet another thing to charge up. Though it'd be nice to finally have wireless headphones.

I don't think they will remove the headphones jack. And if they do, they would release an adapter, of course.

Re: iPhone 6

That would be a big deal for me. I use it in my car via an AUX in and keep it plugged in to charge. I'd probably switch to something different with my next upgrade if they made it so you had to use the lightning connector for audio out.

Yup, just more reason for Apple to sell more adapters and accessories.

The lightning cable switch made a lot of sense. This does not. I predict that this rumor is false.

This would be a huge change, so they would most likely include a lightning-3.5mm adapter with the phone.

I'm certain there would be Y adapters available in short order that would accommodate that need.

In any case, these rumors are talking about possible changes in a future iPhone, not something that will happen this year.

If true, I'd likely go the smaller version. I carry my phone in my pocket....often my back jeans pocket. I can't imagine doing that w/a 5.5" phone.

Re: iPhone 6

I'm kind of in the same camp, but I'm going to wait to see the phones first before I decide. I've always believed that the 4.5 inch range was the sweet spot for a cell phone, but after using a friend's GS5, I kind of liked the extra size. If the 5.5" iPhone 6 fits in my pocket (which it probably won't) I might consider it.
