Re: The Apple Thread

Huh. Mine still works so I can wait. Depending on the Nano, I may bite, I loved the square one but hated the newer one. The square one sweated out after a couple of years and SquareTrade paid it out (even after I wrote "is sweat a liquid?" under "has it come in contact with liquids?").

Re: The Apple Thread

So for anyone out there with a MacPro -- my 2009 was being very slow doing serious photo editing, etc. and I ended up getting a OWC PCIe based SSD to use as a boot drive/photo library drive. Holly cow! It really is like getting a new computer -- I have no words for how much faster it is -- and because it is PCIe, I didn't lose any of my existing HD drive bays.

Highly recommended.

PCIe SSD is an even more insane improvement.

I bought my wife the 2013 MacBook Air last month to replace her six-year-old Sony Vaio and for base operations, her MacBook Air beats my iMac. The machine boots up in eight seconds and when you click on an app, it's already open waiting for you.

Re: The Apple Thread

Yeah PCIe SSD is quick, though honestly I haven't noticed a huge difference in operation between that and modern SATA III SSDs unless I'm copying files over, both seem to max out performance pretty damn quickly. SATA-Express, which is set for next year, should be impressive.

Hell, even in bloated ass Windows, apps load before you're done clicking (I say this as my mid-level desktop PC boots up faster than the monitor turns on.)

Re: The Apple Thread

When my earbuds are plugged into my iPad (3rd gen), it will randomly activate Siri or start playing music (even if the music app is turned off). Anybody know the source of this and a solution?

Try resetting the iPad and see if that helps.

Re: The Apple Thread

So, the big event is tomorrow. What's everyone looking forward to?

I'm planning to get the new iPad 5. Already picked up the Apple Wireless Keyboard and a tablet stand to go with it.

I'm also interested in a new Apple TV. I hope they can come up with some decent upgrades to that.

Re: The Apple Thread

I want a retina display iPad mini... I won a mini early this year and ended up selling my 3rd gen iPad since I found I was always going with the smaller mini. Hopefully Mavericks will be ready to go as well and that its just a software refresh on the ATV.

Will the stand work with the new iPad? According to some reports (not all), the dimensions will change:

I grabbed this one. It shouldn't be a problem. It was only $9, so if it sucks it's not a big deal.

Re: The Apple Thread

They'll be streaming the event live on the Apple TV at 1pm EST (10am PST). An "Apple Events" channel has been added to the ATV home screen.

Re: The Apple Thread

Looking forward to all of the announcements. I thought the iPhone announcement was horribly weak, so I hope Apple knocks it out of the park with this one.

No reason they shouldn't - we should see updates to MacBook Pro, iPad, and iPad Mini, plus I'm guessing iOS 7 for iPad and Mavericks stuff.

Really curious what the new Pro lineup will be, and anxious to see an iPad redesign and Mini with retina display.

Whew, $3000 for the Mac Pro... still some sexy specs.

Cool about Mavericks 10.9 being free. If only MS would release an OS for free....

Re: The Apple Thread

Yeah really cool Mavericks is free. I will upgrade from Snow Leopard today I think, though I'm not sure how well my aging 2010 iMac will handle it.

New 13 inch MacBook Pro is interesting as well - odd how much parity there is there with the Air though. I also can't tell if the 13" is Retina now? Or the 15 inch for that matter...

Mac Pro looks cool, love the design. Not something I'd be interested in, but that thing was looooong overdue for a refresh. That old case design had been around for what feels like a decade. Maybe it was actually that long.

So over iLife and iWork. They should add a graphics application. Even MS has Fresh Paint, bad as it is.

How the hell did they make the iPad ANOTHER 40% thinner. It's going to feel like a piece of paper! And only 1lb. Wow.

$399 for the Retina model is really good as well. I think I am in for the new 16GB mini with LTE. This was a good event - much better than September.

Only a $30 price drop doesn't seem like much to me between generations for the Mini. Surprised it isn't more actually, say $279 or so.

Mavericks is pretty awesome, I have a Mac Pro lying around here at work that i can update to play with.

iPad Air is an impressive piece of hardware.
