Such as what? The Kindle Fire and its competitors? There are in no way comparable to an iPad.

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
The ASUS Transformer released at $399, $100 cheaper then the retail iPad. There's also been a lot of sales recently on 10" tablets to put them around $300-350.

For multiple reasons. But you were still wrong about iPad competitor pricing.

Just because it has more horses and cylinders does not make it better. Well, to some people it does.

I've been setting up the iPad 2 I'm giving to my mom all afternoon, I do like the fluidity and cookbook selection better than that on my Galaxy 10.1 (the 10.1 has a hugely superior screen, but I'm sure the New iPad kills it), but the nickel and dime-ing of in-app purchases is damn rampant on there ![]() Despite the geek complaints, I think 4:3 is better suited for a tablet, and Portrait should be the default mode. |

Yes, given that you didn't have a response for the first part of my post that you removed before quoting. I'm not sure how you can argue that the Transformer released at $399 against a $499 iPad 2.

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
This is the same tablet that felt like it was about to fall apart, right?

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
I bought a couple of Acer a500 32gb10.1" tablets in the past few months and have been very pleased. Got one for the wife and one for myself. I bought them refurbished directly from Acer ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/Acer-Iconia-...item3cc59aa578 ) for $299 each and have not had a bit of issues.
Granted, I have an iPhone and wanted and iPad but didn't want to pay their retarded prices for something I mainly wanted to use as a reader, internet browser and generally something to mess around with. Bought a case on Amazon for less than 10 bucks and you can add another 32gb via micro sd card. If you want to game on it though, I wouldn't recommend it if you have to have all the latest stuff. A lot of games, I have found, seem to be only available on the iPad or only work on a more recent tablet. Since I don't use it for gaming, it doesn't really affect me. I was think about buying one of the Acer a100 for my kid though since his 2nd generation itouch won't play the new Skylanders or Angry Birds games but it appears that the Android tablets all over the place in what games are compatible and which ones aren't from what I can find. That's been the only thing keeping me from buying our son one. I wish Apple would release an in-between size tablet. Smaller than the iPad but larger than the Touch. I'm not about to spend the money for an iPad for my 8 year old though. Can't decide whether to take the chance on the a100 for him or just get him a new 4th gen touch. He wants a bigger screen but still wants all the games. |

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
My tablet has specs close to the latest iPad at the time I bought it, and it was probably 1/3 the price of the iPad. Does everything I need. Having used the iPad, I can say that to me, it isn't worth paying 3x as much for. Of course, this is based on my personal usage, others may need it depending on what they do.

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
I don't want to spend all that money on something that may soon become obsolete. I thought his touch would be able to play anything in the apple app store but we are finding more and more games and/or apps that will not play on the 2nd gen touch. I don't find that very comforting in buying an older iPad.

Everything goes obsolete quickly, that said for a 7" I'd stick with the Sammy Gal Tab 2.

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
I still think the $500 I spent on my original iPad was best bang for the buck I ever spent on consumer electronics. I have a hard time calling that a "retarded" price. (Not that I would use that term in the first place.)
The old adage: you get what you pay for. One poster said the selection of cooking apps was lame, another said he couldn't play games, another said some tablet felt like was going to fall apart. I played the game of buying the cheaper thing for years and then you get to the point where you realize that the added expense is just worth it for many reasons. I also understand that I'd have felt completely differently twenty years ago when money was tight. |

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
I have a HP Touchpad (running CM7) which works great for my wife who uses it for Netflix/Facebook/Browsing but I'm going to have to get an iPad at some point for one reason only; I play a lot of board games like Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, etc. and the tablet versions of these and many others are 95% exclusive to iOS. Android has Catan and Androminion and that's about it.

Re: Help Looking for a good Tablet...
I can easily say the same thing about the $400 I spent on my Galaxy Tab 8.9.
