Pebble: E-Paper Watch for Andoid and iOS

This kickstarter project is breaking records. Pledged goal was $100,000. They broke $1 million in 28 hours. With 26 days to go they are currently at $6 million. Anyone going to get one?

Damn I had the idea for that middle screen (a watch/alarm clock actually writing the time out) a couple years ago. Good to see it come to fruition though.

This seems like a cool concept, but I don't think I'll be getting one.

It looks pretty neat, but really it seems like it just takes functionality that you can already have on your phone and put it in a more convenient place on your wrist, right?

I bought the $125 level. Seems like a good price for a watch. I was really hoping to see them add BT 4.0 but I think it's to late for a change like that. I think that could have really helped with battery life. Charging once a week isn't bad though.

I don't wear a watch either, but it does look kinda neat in that 'techy cool' kinda way.

I may revisit when it actually hits the market and see what all it can do. I can't really see a good use for it for myself currently. Possibly for running/biking, but that's about it, since it looks like you still have to be in Bluetooth range for it to be much more than a timepiece.

Any details on the email usage on the pebble? That's what I would mainly use it for.

I know it can do email alerts. Screen might be to small to read full emails but I don't see why it wouldn't be possible. Especially on Android.

is there a detailed video showing the e-mail workings? all i saw in the promo video was a brief glimpse. showing something like pick up milk. i was hoping for something more detailed. i don't expect images to show up, but at least i'd want to have the text readable.

I think that was a text not an email :P

It's epaper so I'm sure you can read emails, but it would take like 30 minutes because you'd probably get like 4 words per screen.

It said it could be used for email, was curious to see how it works in that respect. I don't mind smaller font. I don't plan to read long emails, just to see a little bit of the beginning.

I love the look of this. Only thing I don't like is leaving my Bluetooth on all the time. It's a bit of a drain.

EDIT: Eh, I cracked and backed it. Been looking for a new watch anyway!

That has only a 3-4 day battery life due mainly to OLED display. The e-paper has twice the battery life.

How is the visibility comparison? I realize that the Sony one has shorter life but has color.

Per the website, it won't ship with BT 4.0, but will be added in later via upgrade. They don't think that 4.0 will help much with Battery life, but might make wireless sensor accessories like HR monitors more practical.

I'm looking forward to this product.

One semi-important thing I noted in the Video Game Talk forum : The main reason I want it is for SMS messages on my watch -- I'm a doctor and can't be missing any from my answering service. That feature will be available for Android phones (which I have), but not for iOS devices, since iOS won't make that data visible via BT.

SMS will work on a jail broken iPhone though.

I really want one, but I don't tend to wear watches and am not sure how much I'd use it.
