Apple App Store New Security Measures

well below is what I was going to post and ask before I just decided to search another way "app security info required" and found that this is something new just rolled out and appearently not even announced on Apple's own site

for anyone who can answer
looking to download Atomic Web Browser Lite on my iPad
when I click on the free button it of course asks me for my Apple ID Password which I enter

it then brings up the message that the app contains age-restricted material and to tap OK to confirm I am 17 or over. Your content will then begin downloading immediately

I click "ok"

it then brings up a Security Info Required prompt
"To help ensure the security of your Apple ID, you must confrim your security password and answer your security questions" options to cancel or click "security info"

If I cancel it ends the download/installation ... if I click "security info" it promps me for my Apple ID Password again

is this common .... is this info just going to Apple as in the first step in entering my password?

apple needs to do something for security

a couple weeks back my itunes account was hacked..
i received an email receipt for a purchase for a $40 gift card
i asked my wife if she bought one, she said no
so i tried to log into itunes to check it out... password didnt work
so i hit the button to have my password emailed to me.. never received it (they changed the email)
so i hit the button to reset the email.. had to verify my birthday... that didnt work (they changed my birthday info)

so i was pretty much stuck

the good thing is that the receipt listed the last 4 digits of the credit card used to buy the GC, and it wasnt one of mine..

it was 11pm cst and apple support was closed... so i emailed them and told them to fix it..
next morning at 10am cst (8pst), i received an email from apple support that they recognized there was a problem, reimbursed the money to the credit card, blocked the credit card so it couldnt be used for apple purchases again, killed the gift certificate, reset my email address and password, and encouraged me to go change me password..

so I was happy with how quickly support took care of everything.. i was easily able to log back in.. heck the $75 balance i had in my itunes account was still there..

the person had hacked my account and tied a stolen credit card to it.. figuring i wouldnt care since it wasnt my card, and the person that owned the cc wouldnt know for awhile since it wasnt attached to their itunes account.. i guess..

but that night when i first noticed it.. i did a google to make sure there wasnt anything else i should be doing.. and found many many many discussions with multiple hundreds of people who had their accounts compromised within about a week of that time... so I guess its pretty common.

I was kind of wondering the same thing.

Back to the original topic, I admit I have been puzzling over the notion that someone would be annoyed at Apple for trying to ensure that their account doesn't get hacked. I could see some non-tech-savvy people being confused, but annoyed? I don't get that.

Well I do agree, I wish they would have sent an email or something beforehand, or other announcement. When it happened to me I thought that was the hack! I thought there was something amiss, so I canceled and did a Google to find out it was some new security measures and went back and bought was I was originally trying to do.

Most online stores, systems/websites, send an email to your old email account when you change your email address. Weird if Apple doesn't do that.

what is annoying is that the company instituted a policy without notice that more than anything gave the impression one might actually be being asked to give up information in an attempt by someone to break into their account

the part where it was easy to get my account info, as well as thousands of other peoples info in the previous week or so of when i did the search

when you make financial transactions through a site.. you expect that the site can keep your information secure.

correct, they definitely didnt require that
