Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
And was it free? And does Synology automatically replace the drive and transfer all of your files over when it fails, without you even having to notify them? And does it seamlessly integrate with hundreds (if not thousands) of apps on your phone/tablet?

Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
I wonder if they'll just expand Google Docs to 5 GB and call it gdrive.

Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
Dropbox works fine for my uses, not sure why I'd want to go through the trouble to switch unless Google offers significantly more disk space.

(I know that capability exists today with Google+, but I'd strongly prefer not to participate in a social network just to get that capability).

Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
If you just want to have a backup in the cloud almost any provider is fine, box.net, dropbox, etc. SkyDrive gives you 25 GB.
If you want to be able to sync your files, that's a different world. Most people really like dropbox, even if it's the one that gives you the less space "out of the box", box.net and Skydrive give you 5 GB for example.

Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
I think one appeal of "settling" for the service from google as opposed to better alternatives is that google is likely to be around in 5 years, and several of these cloud-type sites have already gone under iirc.

Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
As I expected, they just made google docs bigger. I still like the Skydrive web UI better.
What's the max upload size - still 1GB? |

Not available for my account yet (either of them actually), that's kind of weak.

Mine works. Surprised that the storage starts so low.

terms and conditions... maybe that's par for the course for these storage places, but it's pretty scary sounding.

Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
A fair point to ask about... but no, it's nothing like other services.

Re: GDrive aka Google's Dropbox killer
Really ignorant question here, especially since I don't handle any of this stuff myself. Isn't the benefit of the Google service the ability to search?
