HELP Needed: Upgraded Win 2K to XP; won't take admin pswd
I just received an older Windows 2000 laptop from a friend. Everything works fine on it but I wanted to put on Windows XP. I installed XP and all seems to have gone fine. However, now I can't seem to log into the laptop using the same admin password that I had used when it was Windows 2000! Any ideas?
Thanks. |

You're going to need to be more specific.
Was this an upgrade install or a clean install? Did you create a new admin password during the upgrade/install? If it was an upgrade was auto-login enabled on the Win2K? If an upgrade are the other user accounts present?

Re: HELP Needed: Upgraded Win 2K to XP; won't take admin pswd
This was an upgrade install and I didn't create any new admin password during the install.
Upon reboot, the Windows XP user account login screen is presented with the Administrator and another user account. I'm not sure about the auto-login being enabled. I assume not as when the laptop had Win2K, I had to login. Worst case scenario, I can do a clean install of XP but I rather avoid having to do that and then having to reinstall all of the apps, etc. Last edited by ngp; 11-11-09 at 08:31 AM. |

Try hitting ctrl+alt+del twice at the login screen.

I'll give that a try...unfortunately, the laptop is at home so I'll try later today. Thanks.

Thanks Zuffy, I used the Offine NT Password & Registry Editor and it worked beautifully! Only took me about 10 minutes after burning the ISO to a CD!
Thanks again! Last edited by ngp; 11-11-09 at 04:33 PM. |
