Recommend me a Video Card

My buddy is looking for a video card that will work on Windows 7. He has a brand new quad core machine being delivered tomorrow and needs a video card that will allow him to run dual monitors.

No gaming, no video editing. He is literally using this system to play poker on multiple tables and 2 monitors as well as storing photos and music for his iPod. The only video editing is converting formats to play on his iPod. He has dual Dell 24" HDMI monitors.

So the requirements are basically:
- Windows 7 compatible
- Dual monitor compatible

Re: Recommend me a Video Card

A ATI 4850 or Nvidia 9800 should work just fine I would think, for not much over $100. No problems with my 4850 and Windows 7 64, and it has 2 DVI ports.

Don't know ATI well but an Nvidia 9400, 9500 or 9600 will do the job. They cost less than $100

It seems. From pictures in newegg it has 3 outputs, hdmi, vga and dvi. So he can use any two of those, maybe using adapters, depending of the monitors inputs.

Re: Recommend me a Video Card

I would get an Nvidia 9 series card before that.

Re: Recommend me a Video Card

Will the Nvidia 9s handle light gaming OK and not require me to upgrade the 300W power supply that came in my Windows 7 pre-built? I had a 7600 GT in my last system (XP) and it handled WoW and stuff like that OK and I never upgraded the 300W in that system.

Re: Recommend me a Video Card

Any of the 9600 and below will not require alot power from the PS. If you are happy with the 7600 GT performance, then the 9 series is more than enough.
