How do you backup Ipod Touch Apps?

I purchased a number of Apps for my Ipod Touch and had to reformat my computer due to some performance issues... long story short, when I reinstalled Itunes, it didn't recognize that I had any Apps and it appears that I now need to re-purchase them. What am I supposed to do to ensure this doesn't happen again?

Thanks.

As long as you are logged into the same account if you try to download the app again it should say it has already been purchased. Also iTunes should back them up as well.

Yep, unlike music and videos, the iTunes store allows you to re-download apps for free. Here's a guide:

However, if you want to backup the iTunes files next time before doing a format, here's a guide on copying the apps files found on your computer:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/guides/...-in-itunes.ars

Note that the guide is for iTunes on OS X. iTunes for Windows may store the apps in a different folder.

Search your computer for .ipa files. They are in mobile applications. Forgot the exact path in the profile. Back up that folder

My wife and I both have an iPhone and use the same iTunes account for both. It was nice that I did not have to pay twice for the same program. Only have purchased a few Tetris, Beejive and Simply Media.

That's interesting because I d/l an episode of The Office and after I wiped my hard drive, I d/l it again and I was charged. I'll be damned if I pay $10 for Peggle again.

Thanks for everyone's replies.

You should look into backing up your drive, either to an external drive, online service, or both.
