Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I'm sorry, but my exposure to an iPhone is very limited. Yes, there are free and paid apps. Tons and tons of each. Branded ones and user created ones. I just downloaded Pandora, Weather Channel, Daily Comic Strips, My Verizon (account info), and some others.

There were an NES, SNES, and GBA emulators on the first page of game apps (paid).

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I happen to have two Best Buys between work and home, so I stopped in to both. Neither had any out that I could try. I called Verizon and they said I could try it for a month and return it if I didn't like it (with a restocking fee, I'm sure). I might swing by a BB tomorrow and see what happens. Oh, and if someone wants to quote my earlier posts about how I was going to wait and see, I know I'm an impetuous fool.

Edit: By the way, every review has mentioned that the iPhone has more apps than Android. But much of that is shovelware like iFart, so take that for what you will.

Edit 2: A little something to add more fuel to the multitouch fire-- http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/05/i...howdown-video/ However, there is already a "Better Keyboard" app, and I'm sure someone will update that to be multitouch soon.

The emulators sound cool. Glad to know there are apps like BB App World and The App Store have.

I am guessing it'd be fairly easy.

I never let the iPhone has 100k apps or whatever discussion phase me. Everyone always mentions the fart apps

I just want apps that are fun and I can use. Also, and it may be because of wi-fi, but the iPhone downloaded apps much faster than my BlackBerry did. Plus, it didn't lag, or crash at all.

do a search for HTC keyboard. it's amongst the best and can easily be put on any Android phone without rooting it. involves taking SD card out and loading it on there. pretty easy steps to follow. http://androinica.com/2009/08/25/how...ng-your-phone/

now, i don't know if it's multitouch, but from all reports it's the best keyboard out there.

i don't necessarily know about that. i've only got one Verizon store within 10 miles of me, and they are opening early. if i can't get one from the Verizon store (since i have NE2 credit), I'll just order online and get it Monday.

Here's a review I found:

http://gizmodo.com/5396168/motorola-...yline=true&s=i

Makes it a bit easier to stay with the iPhone.

i don't really see anything on there that hasn't already been said multiple times over. it also doesn't dissuade me from getting it.

That was the first I saw about bad camera, and stuttering menu. Plus random crashes, and reboots.

really? several of the reviews i've read said the camera interface is pretty clunky.

The Engadget review mentions the stuttering, but not the random crashes.

There's only a restocking fee if you switch to a different phone within three days of the return.

So you're saying no restocking fee if I wasn't planning on getting any other phone at all (since I already have a phone)?

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I am.

I bought an HTC Imagio about a month ago and took it back a couple weeks ago no questions asked - and no fees. The NE2 and the 2 year upgrade was put back on my account in like 2 days.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Is that only through the actual Verizon store? I was going to buy it at Best Buy because I have one right by my place and I don't have to worry about a MIR.

I took the Imagio back to a Verizon store. I don't know what Best Buy's policy is on restocking fees.

I guess I'll take my chances with BB in the morning. Thanks.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Hope you enjoy it as much as I am.

I used Google Navigation to get to work this morning (just to test it on a route that I already know up down and sideways) and it worked flawlessly. The voice is a little grating, and it's too robotic (I'm used to the Garmin which still wasn't great but much better than this).

The audio from the music player, connected to my car stereo with a cassette adapter, sounded VERY rich and full.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Used my Co-workers for a short period... I like the call quality better than the iPhone and the flexibility in the interface is nice.

I haven't noticed substantial stutter or any crashes yet.

It's a quick phone and the screen is amazing.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

First thing I did when I got home (even before activating it) was to charge it fully.

The battery use screen (which is stock) shows that it's been 15h 27m since unplugged and it looks like it's about to die. I used it very heavily last night during initial setup and testing. The screen has been on for almost all the time except when I was sleeping. Listened to it as an MP3 player while I folded laundry, used the navigation a couple times, and had WiFi on for most of the time.

Pretty damn good battery life if you ask me, considering it's normal use won't be this heavy and it will most likely be on it's charging dock overnight, every night.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I picked mine up at my Verizon store! Was hardly a line. In and out in about 15 minutes.
The guy working there said some stores already sold out and were sending them to their store.

I'm charging it and will be playing with it during so I can post some comments.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

so far, preliminary impressions: fucking awesome!

i have fat fingers so still getting used to on screen typing. right now running last.fm while installing apps. i think i'm gonna get a T9 keyboard for vertical texting and such as i find i almost need 2 hands to do it vertical.

fast, responsive so far. haven't seen any lag on changing home screens. haven't used the camera for anything other than barcode scanner thing (which is totally badass).

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

So the people who wanted the Droid (I'm assuming the Moto Droid and not the Droid Eris, here) are very happy with their choices. That is wonderful news.

I also was not expecting the battery life to be so freakin' good since most smartphone batteries drain quickly due to background data sessions.

I'm not 100% convinced that I should forgo global capability simply because I plan to go to Japan soon and to rent a phone for use there cost $200 US for two weeks. For that price, I can get an Imagio or a Touch Pro 2.
