Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I just hope the 2.0 firmware (eclair) will load onto my G1 phone. This nav software looks pretty good for a free app. I wonder if there is a minimum amount of storage card space required to cache the maps.

The Palm Pre isn't an Android phone. It runs Palm's WebOS:

You probably should've quoted better then, since it was unclear what part of my post you were referring to.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Aaaannnnyyyway… I’m really excited about the new turn-by-turn Google Maps. Not exactly on-topic but sort-of related, Google will be bringing the turn-by-turn to the iPhone, as well. It’s unclear if they are going to update the built-in app or release a separate one. Google’s blog post just says they are working with Apple and hope to have it out, soon.

I’m kind of wishing I had waited a few months and bought the Droid instead of buying an iPhone a few months ago. Unfortunately, I had no idea this would be coming out.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Google Maps looks awesome and I love the idea of being able to d/l mp3's from Amazon since they are usually a bit cheaper than iTunes (not to mention the mp3 Daily Deals that Amazon has). Not quite enough to make me give up my iPhone but I'll definitely be paying attention to reviews, etc.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Pardon my ignorance, I haven't really kept up on phone technology. Is this a fully functioning web browser? Which phones don't use mobile web pages? Are they few and far between, or is it becoming more common?

Does anyone know if the new droid will be able to be used as a wi-fi hot spot? I haven't been able to find this out yet (though I didn't go the Howard forums yet).

Yes, it's a fully functioning web browser. It's pretty fast with a 3G connection. However, since the screen is still pretty small, regardless of which phone you use, I prefer the mobile web pages most of the time. The mobile sites give you the "meat" if you will of what you are usually looking for much faster. Some flash based sites don't work well but flash 10 support is supposedly coming to android.

Right - there should be an option in the browser settings to load either the full or mobile versions. Your choice. That's how my WinMo phone works anyway.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Does anybody know anything about email support? Obviously they are going to be doing G-mail but what about exchange support on par with a Blackberry. I'm trying to decide whether I should buy this or the Storm 2. Droid looks like it has better features and designs but only a short mention of email support has me wondering. Any info would be appreciated.

My two year contract was up in July and I have NE2 credit of $100 so I could possibly get this phone for $99. That sounds like a great deal to me.

or you could post information that is actually correct, and I wouldn't have to confuse you by my crazy quoting style!

the only thing it doesn't support right now is flash, but supposedly they are working on that for a release sometime early in 2010.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Exchange support - confirmed.

HOWEVER - it's not a Blackberry and there are corporate IT departments that won't allow you to use a non-blackberry phone (even with Exchange support) with their network. It's best to check with your IT department first. Something about Blackberry security features.

yeah, i might just have to jump on that. not having to deal with MIR, getting the NE2 credit and applying a bit more credit via BB GC, I think it's pretty much settled I'll get it there.

Note that PdaNet only supports tethering over USB, so it doesn't turn the phone into a "wi-fi hotspot" like the wifi tether for rooted phones does.

Both docks will retail for $30 each. Not bad. I'll probably be getting the regular docking station.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Well the GPS looks cool, but I'd use my Garmin because it announces street names. Not sure if this did. Plus, I use my GPS and phone for work, and I can't see using the same thing for two tasks.

My problem now lies with the iPhone. The reception sucks ass thanks to AT&T. I love the apps, though, and I love the text messaging, the visual voice mail, etc. I paid $570 for the phone, including tax and the ridiculous $200 deposit.

I have three weeks or so to decide whether I want to cancel or not, sans the $30 I'll lose from the restocking fee. Plus, I heard it might take 2 months to get the money refunded to my account. My next upgrade for Verizon doesn't hit until March, so I doubt they'd let me go 4-5 months early. Maybe if I mention I was thinking of jumping ship to AT&T.

We pay $205 a month for 3 lines with Verizon, and two are data plans. We have 700 anytime minutes, and unlimited texting. One phone has insurance on it, the others don't.

As for AT&T, my plan would be $59 for the 900 anytime minutes, with rollover and a-list, and $30 extra for the iPhone data plan. Add another $20 a month for unlimited texting.

Any ideas on what I should do? In a perfect world I'd keep both, but I can't see paying $300+ a month for four cell phones
