phandorid.com had a review of one the other day (sat maybe?) that they really liked, but i don't think it was free.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

The car mount is sold out at the Verizon website and also at the store near me. I'll have to check with the store across town. Blah. I picked up a belt pouch, car charger, and screen protector today. I think I may port my number over tomorrow to reduce the amount I have to pay to AT&T for this month.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

How is the pouch and screen protector? Did you put it on or did they? Does it hinder the touch screen sensitivity at all?

I have to return my case tomorrow. I might pick up both the pouch and protector. The multimedia dock is pretty cool, too.

Your contract up or you breaking it?

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I'm breaking it. Their network was getting pretty slow lately. Any loss I incur from canceling will be more than covered by selling the iPhone.

I like the pouch, although I'd prefer it if it were held closed by magnet instead of velcro. The screen protector has made scrolling a little more difficult, because I'm used to just brushing my finger against the screen. Now I have to exert a little more pressure, but not a ton. If I find it to be bothersome I'll just remove it.

Did you have a protector for the iPhone?

For the 1st gen and 3G, yes. The 3GS has an oleophobic screen, so I never bothered with one. I didn't check to see if Droid has an oleophobic screen.

Motorola probably sold 100,000 Droids over the weekend...

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Is the Droid really limited to only 256MB for apps? Really?

And they put a battery door on the back?

Quote:
It’s a phone an engineer could love. Compared to the iPhone or the Palm Pre it isn’t even in the same league. The battery door on the back proves my point. The iPhone? They just got rid of the idea of replaceable batteries and the Palm Pre spent a LOT of time making sure that having a replaceable battery did NOT make the phone have a noticeable door. The back of both the iPhone and the Palm Pre is smooth. The back of the Droid is not. That is NOT a shining example of great industrial design.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

a week or so late with these complaints, huh?

first of all, there is work on some level to create program to run apps directly off the memory card. supposedly will be out here soon.

second, who gives a shit if it has a battery door on the back that's noticeable? are you seriously going to not buy a phone because of it?

Yeah the rant on the battery door was absolutely stupid. Android will always be less user friendly than the iPhone OS due to its flexibility. It's the same reason I prefer Linux (hell, even Win 7) over Snow Leopard - it does what I want it to do, not what a designer thinks it should do. Though I guess they could rip off the iPhone main screen and have the actual OS desktop a button click away.

the 256mb thing is retarded, seriously, who thought that was a good idea?

Apple and Palm apparently. I'd throw the phone right out the window if the friggin' battery thing would come off while in use. Consumer electronics is as much about design as functionality. You can see this in most any device.

Logitech should figure this out. Both of my last two Harmony remotes the battery things broke because of daily use. Really bad design.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I'm sorry, what?

I have already installed more worthless apps than I'll ever need to use, along with the useful apps that I do want and need. I still have 186 MB on internal storage available.

I DARE you to fill that 256 MB worth of stuff you'll actually use.

And that's before they update the phone to run apps of the 16GB (upgradeable to 32GB) SD card.

Looking through my old phones, I've had a battery cover on every single one of them and never once had a problem with them. Never broken, never come off when I don't intend them to.

Sounds like a personal problem.

i've never once had the battery door slip down and expose the battery. it's solidly in place on the phone.

From daringfireball.net:

My two biggest games alone (Texas Hold’em and Need for Speed Undercover) weigh in at just over 256 MB combined. Just two games.
What you find "worthless" is buried in thousands of useful apps for the iPhone.

Actually, the author was just reacting to a pro-Droid review claiming that the Droid was "great industrial design."

And because someone likes something, they are a "fanboy?" What is this? A Star Wars convention?

Yes and No. Only the executable has to be stored on the internal memory. The rest of the program data can be stored on the SD card, if the programmer has properly written his code. So for the Myst example in the link, the Android version could store a 1-2MB executable on the internal memory, and then store the 725MB of game data on an SD card. So it's not as big a limiting factor as some sites are making it out to be.

Also, it's not the fault of Google or Android at all. It's up to the manufacturers to decide how much internal memory to put into the phone.

A lot of people complain about not being able to replace the iPhone's battery themselves, and some users prefer swapping batteries mid-day to having to find a way to charge the phone to keep using it. It seems the only problem here is that the door is more noticeable than it could be.

Seems to me to be even more pathetic than a Star Wars convention when the new talking point to try to throw out there is the battery cover.

Keep trying fanboy.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I found this 360 view of the DROID to look at this "problem" battery door:
http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Moto...0-po_3853.html

I'm guessing it's the section on the back of the DROID with the Motorola section on it, but it doesn't really stick out like a sore thumb or anything. My G1 has a more seamless back, but I don't ever see it since I use a phone cover.

I will say the Motorola went a bit overboard with 5 visible screws on the back of the slide-up screen, in comparison to the 2 visible screws on the back of my G1. However, I'm never looking at the back of the screen when I've slid the keyboard open, cause I'm too busy typing.

Wow, complaining about a battery cover?
Talk about a reach.

This was the same complaint Apple fanboys had about the MyTouch's custom shells aka "battery covers."

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I just bought a iPhone 3GS last month. I have 5 days left to be within the 30 day Window. My wife just got a Droid and I am thinking of paying the 10% restocking fee ($30) and paying the $35 cancellation fee.

I guess my only question is.. Do you all think I'm crazy? Should I stick by the iPhone? Apple puts so many restrictions it drives me crazy and the AT&T network doesn't work very reliably for me. Then again the Droid is missing the polish and the Camera doesn't work nearly as well (in my opinion). Someone talk me out of this before I do it

Edit: It looks like Nick is doing the same thing. How much more time do you have?

It's the software developers fault. Got it. Maybe that should have been straightened out BEFORE launching the phone. All of the developers are apparently "uneducated."
