also, about the smudge stuff. i got some ghost armor installed on it today at Best Buy. just the screen. the guy said he'll have the entire phone armor w/in next 10 days. i'll let you know how it is as i'm waiting for it to dry. it was installed there, cost $20 and is guaranteed for the lifetime of the phone. total armor is $30. i figured it's well worth it. my LG voyager got beat to shit up around the outsides and such.
My Voyager was the same way.

Honestly, with the Gmail thing, I never really used it. My primary is Hotmail. I just wanted to start fresh with Gmail. Yeah, some spam got in the inbox. Notices or not, I'd rather not have crap on the phone.

If you have Astro and App Installer both installed on your phone, you can do all that directly from your phone without mounting it to your computer.

BUT once I did it I kept getting Force Close errors whenever I tried to use the keyboard. So I went here: http://www.allshadow.com/2009/08/12/...board-android/ and clicked on the link they provided, reinstalled it over the previous keyboard, and then it worked. The keyboard itself is much nicer, although clearly not made for a phone with such a high rez screen, since the text does look a little pixelated. But the usability is much greater.

1. It seems about as smudgy as my 3G and 3GS.

2. What do you mean by "you always have to rotate it"? The answer/end call screen comes up in portrait mode, but you can still use the touchscreen if you're in landscape mode.

3. You can also press the power/lock button at the top of the phone to unlock it.

Other than during the initial setup and once more for testing purposes, I haven't used the physical keyboard at all. The HTC keyboard takes care of all my problems on that end. I do like the rocker, incidentally, but it seems pretty useless given that we've got a touchscreen.

Edit: Has anyone else had problems with the Pandora app only working intermittently? I've never had this problem with the iPhone Pandora app.
Thanks for the power key option. Makes it alot easier. I am used to just pressing the button on the iPhone to wake it up.

When you get a call it says rotate to answer or decline. Is there any other way to answer a call? I didn't see it. I pressed the screen and I guess you can swipe to answer? Is there no one touch answer?

You have two iPhones and a Droid? I thought I was bad

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

I just touched the "answer call" button and swiped it to the right, same as if I were unlocking the phone. I'm guessing they give you the rotate option if you're in landscape since the phone will be in portrait mode when you put it up to your ear, but you can still swipe if you prefer.

I don't have two iPhones. I had a 3G and upgraded to the 3GS, selling my 3G to pay off the upgrade. But I found both were equally prone to smudging. Currently I have the 3GS and the Droid. At the end of 30 days I will decide whether or not I want to switch to Verizon or keep AT&T. Right now I'm leaning towards Verizon, but I'm not making any rush judgments yet.

i think maybe he meant he had a 3G and then later got a 3GS. at least that's what I'm hoping he means.

How'd you get the emulator to work? I downloaded the lite version and tried to load a rom from the first site I saw and it said not supported.

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

ok, so ghost armor is awesome, with one huge drawback. i guess somehow the plastic has these lines in it, and when i have a white screen it is completely obvious. i'm debating taking it back to have them redo it. you can't even tell the plastic is on the screen outside of these lines.

So you're in the same boat as me. I, too, am leaning towards Verizon, but only because this phone is new and I am already with them. We'll see.

I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to wake the phone up through the home button, but eventually it sunk in that I needed to be using the power button.

Playing around with it some more, it seems the rocker is very useful for highlighting text. I found that trying to do so with the touch screen is woefully inaccurate. The iphone is definitely better in that regard.

Oops, looks like I posted the same link twice. Here is the correct second link for where I went after the HTC keyboard kept force closing on me: http://sidemission.wordpress.com/200...-donut-update/

Also, for those of you switching from iPhones to Droid, this site will pay you cash to recycle your phone, and will give you an extra $25 on top if you show them you switched from an iPhone to Droid: http://flipswap.com/droid/

Last time I checked the 16GB 3GS was going for $375, so with the additional $25 I'd get $400 for it. And they pay for shipping as well. Seems like a decent deal if you don't want to worry about the hassle of ebay or craig's list.

now that was simple. thanks for the link. should've been that easy to begin with. yeah, text on the screen is fuzzy, but oh well. yay, it has T9!

They probably unlock it and sell it for twice as much

Re: (Verizon/Motorola/Google) DROID - November 6th

Twice as much? I don't know. I saw unlocked 16 GB units going for $600 on ebay. I don't trust the people on ebay for this kind of thing, so I'd have to use Craig's List. I might do that, or I might just do this. Provided I keep the Droid, of course.

Well I have two weeks to decide if I want to tell AT&T to take a hike. They'd owe me the $567 I paid minus the ridiculous $30 restocking fee Apple charges. How long would it take them to credit this back to my account? I have heard up to two months.

Ugh, I hated that type of texting. Is it still legal to text while driving in AZ?

I took a picture of my bunny for my background and it shows as an extreme closeup. What am I doing wrong? Is there a setting or something I am missing?

When you set your background, it should ask you to crop the photo. Make sure you select as much of it as it will let you.

God this is freaking awesome. Shamelessly stolen from HoFo forums:

Step 1:
enable the installation of apps from outside of the marketplace, this is in settings>applications>unknown sources

Step 2:
download http://www.mediafire.com/?qnryyjmmjiz on your phone (type in that url or click on it from this thread)

Install App and Run. Make sure you're connected to Wifi.
