Need recommendations for a car alarm system

Thinking about the Viper 5002 system. My budget is around $300. Any other ones I should be looking at?

Will anyone care about the noise? And they are easy to defeat

Its more for the insurance discount, but why not make it a little bit more harder.

How long will it take to recoup the cost based on the discount.

My brother-in-law was a police officer and told me not to bother. No one pays attention to the noise and they wont stop a determined thief. Lock your doors and don't keep valuables in your car.

Re: Need recommendations for a car alarm system

have you checked with the insurance company? everyone i ever talked to wanted it to be either factory or a LoJack to get any kind of discount. Viper and the others take around 60 seconds to bypass.

years ago my wife wanted a lojack for a new toyota matrix. it was $750, or 5% of the price we paid for the car. and the insurance discount was $50 a year or so. not worth it.

all new cars come with special keys with chips and radio transmitters that are better than any after market alarm. altimas have a really cool key now.
